Yes the road to the store coming from my direction was OK. The same road on the other side is under water. I got TP! There was not a lot of stuff in the store. Zero meat, bread, eggs and milk. Zero. They were announcing that truck loads are on the roads it's just a matter of time to get to my store
If only we could teleport through the computer.:caf:oops:

May all looters be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law

I agree with this statement but I just hope that the police are more careful there than they were here my husband met a guy in Jefferson Parish prison (when he was there for 3 months for his dwi ) that was 4 years in on an 8 year sentence on looting charges when he wasn't looting a family member had asked him to check on his house for them he had keys to the house and he even had his uncle confirm that he had asked him to check on the house for him but they charged him anyway

Saddly the clean and rebuild will take years,

Yeah, we have people here that are still displaced from Matthew; some in places that didn't even flood that bad with Floyd.:(

@KikisGirls glad you made it out and back safely! I imagine most of the folks you met were resolutely cheerful, with a patient, 'we're all in this together' sort of mindset - the majority that doesn't make the news.

:wee

Do you all down there not keep stores of food and TP/other necessities? I have enough TP on most any given day to last for several months.

Some of us do. We also have freezers, generator & enough food to be self sufficient for weeks. Weak points are paper products & fresh water. Good thing we have plenty to drink. Send more beer, the water isn't safe. LOL

Well, at least you know what to stock more of in the future. Invest in a good water filter too.
I am glad you are reasonably well.

:lau:thumbsup

This is probably the ONLY time you will here me say this:
I'd trade anything to be freezing in the snow right now.
lol

can you imagine how much snow that would equal ?
every inch of rain is a foot of snow

What kind of mess am I/we drowned rats looking for with our coops/runs staying soo wet?

What grows in the "wet"?
Fungus?
cocci too

I figured out what I will wear if I can squeeze into it if they need to helicopter me out....my wedding dress. I'd gotta be the only netball dressed in that so I'd be easy to spot on the news. I feel your pain lilapot. If I wasn't already nuts I'd be officially nuts now
Love it!! but so glad you didnt have to resort to that!

I'll be the on

Don't pay any attention to the mud on my legs when they lift me out though.
:sick i can only imagine what it really is

While in distress for want of TP, allow me to stimulate thine imagination for satisfactory alternatives from chapter 13 of Gargantua by Francois Rabelais, which tells of his efforts to find the ultimate in sanitary comfort before TP (btw, I hereby recommend that the year designation AD be changed to TP, and the calender accordingly adjusted, to signify the year TP was invented):

"Once I did wipe me with a gentlewoman's velvet mask, and found it to be good; for the softness of the silk was very voluptuous and pleasant to my fundament. Another time with one of their hoods, and in like manner that was comfortable; at another time with a lady's neckerchief, and after that some ear-pieces made of crimson satin; but there was such a number of golden spangles in them that they fetched away all the skin off my tail with a vengeance. This hurt I cured by wiping myself with a page's cap, garnished with a feather after the Swiss fashion. Afterwards, in dunging behind a bush, I found a March-cat [cattail], and with it daubed my breech, but her claws were so sharp that they grievously exulcerated my perineum. Of this I recovered the next morning thereafter, by wiping myself with my mother's gloves, of a most excellent perfume of Arabia. ...

But to conclude, I say and maintain that of all arse-wisps, bum-fodders, tail-napkins, bung-hole-cleansers and wipe-breeches, there is none in this world comparable to the neck of a goose, that is well downed, if you hold her head betwixt your legs: and believe me therein upon mine honour; for you will thereby feel in your nockhole a most wonderful pleasure, both in regard of the softness of the said down, and of the temperate heat of the goose; which is easily communicated to the bumgut and the rest of the intestines, insofar as to come even to the regions of the heart and brains. And think not that the felicity of the heroes and demigods, in the Elysian fields, consisteth either in their Ambrosia or Nectar, but in this, that they wipe their tails with the necks of geese."
and just then that goose will BITE him right in the :duc

Kiki said they're fine for now, she'd rather the Cajun navy focus on their rescues. She said the rain has stopped, and she's having trouble getting online, but her home is still dry.
how is your area??

Thanks, I thought it was usually a "wham bam" type thing and then it was all over, cleanup begins, this seems to be taking forever.

EDIT: Is anyone else now craving cajun food?
yes!!

UMCOR is a Methodist relief ministry, and 100% of donations go to flood relief. They focus on cleanup and rebuilding efforts, with their most notable contribution being "flood buckets," a 5-gallon bucket stuffed with cleaning supplies. UMCOR also sticks around for years afterward. My dad (Methodist minister) was assigned to Cameron, LA and Grand Chenier after Hurricane Rita (the forgotten storm). His job was mission recovery, and he was there over 5 years.
Great info!

I worked with FEMA after Katrina as an RN, setting up and manning make-shift clinics in Mississippi. Sadly there were tons of clothing and sundries left to rot for 5 months. Best to find a family that you and others can help directly with money/gift cards. Perhaps someone on this site can PM you with names and an address that they can receive mail at. My cousin did this for our family, she lives in CT. People were generous as it was a group of people and they all new where the stuff was going. If you can get your church or some organization you belong to or work for, a $10 or $25 gift card, like Visa, which can be used anywhere for whatever that family needs, from each person who wishes to donate. The money can mount up quick, and the person receiving it will be extremely greatful.
Great advice, I know 3 months after Katrina hit there where mountains of clothing shipping boxes mounded up in parking lots.
