This is my small gumbo Pots... only 8 quarts. Enough for 4 or 5 adults and my breakfast for tomorrow

I will be eating my 3rd bowl at that that time!

Gumbo is like a pot of peas, they just get better the longer you wait.

I do the potato salad with gumbo..
I save the chow chow for the rice n gravy. (but I am actually out of it...I need to remember to grab a jar or two the next time I go out to my mom's..thanks for the reminder)

Rice n' gravy. Mmmm.

I could feed the kids twice, put them in the car and get to Mawmaw's house. "Are you babies hungry?", she'd ask.

Each one of the little stinkers would say "yes, rice n' gravy! Mawmaw!" And then they'd finish a bowl of Mawmaw's Rice n' Gravy before I could get in the door. "Poor babies were starving!" she'd say.

Poor babies have hollow legs! And then they were teenagers and I taught them to make their own rice n' gravy! N' black eyed peas and still working on the gumbo. But they don't go hungry!
