Did this with my daughter at about that age, sat her on a bar stool in the kitchen to help. Mostly we learned what everything was at that time. Now she is 14 and very self sufficient! It doesn't hurt to involve them early, even if they are just watching.
Grampy, rocks!!!
I was cooking full family meals when I was 7. Biggest challenge I had were differences between mom and dad. So I quickly learned how to split recipes.

When I was in high school, mom would send me to help her friends to learn how to cook. I think I was like sixteen when exiting one house and ran into the 6'6" husband wanting to know what I was doing in his house. At 6'3" and 145lbs I was terrified... But she came to my rescue. Later a great friendship formed.

You are a giant?

Okay, I have to go get my daughter, who spends all my money going to an all girls high school from the all boys high school, where she is practicing for Throughally Modern Millie (the play). Will try to catch up when I get home. Everyone will have to eat leftovers. Too bad, at least they have food.
