I got home last night and got SOOOO mad at my son!!!!!!! This week, because its a short holiday week (Veteran's Day, and I'm off Friday), I get home after 430pm. ((ETA, I'm working 10 hr shifts instead of 8s to get a full 40 hrs)) Monday and Tuesday, it was overcast and yucky, and I got home in time to close up the coop, put up their food and tuck the girls in. Last night I got home, and I thought that maybe they'd be out. I go down to the coop and the ramp is down, the doors closed, food is up. At first I'm thinking, cool the boy beet me to it... Then I realize that the food is up EXACTLY the way I do it. I open the human door to count combs, and I SWEAR they all glared at me. I found one egg on the floor and grabbed it, and tucked them in, locking everything up.
Then I go up to the house, "Son, did you lock up the chickens?"
Son, who's playing a video game, "No..... Awwww Crap! And I didn't let them out either!"

Mine were bad about feeding but not watering the animals. One day, to illustrate my point, I made all four of them sit down and eat a bowl of dry cereal with no milk and nothing to drink for at least an hour. They were, of course, parched. They hated it and I can say I've NEVER had a problem with the animals having water. My husband is very good about checking behind them too. They are all adults now and have different work and school schedules, so my dear husband assists too. Kids can be frustrating sometimes!

That must be a rewarding job. Are they nice towards you? Do you get to teach all genders?
They are all adult males and can be quite lively, but are respectful for the most part. I like my PR students - they are mostly from the housing projects in Puerto Rico. I once had a student of a different race who was stalking me. I had warned him off, reported him to the captain and lieutenants, but he persisted. When my Puerto Rican students found out about it (the guy came over during one of my ESL classes), they got him alone and told him they'd kill him if he didn't leave me alone. I never saw him over in the education building again. I'd only see him on the compound, usually going in the other direction. Based on that, I'd say they respect me a great deal. :)

Hope this doesn't come out wrong, but I love that they protected you in the best way they could/knew at the time. Speaks volumes for the kind of person YOU are. :hugs

Thanks - it didn't come out wrong :). My Mom and Dad came to one of my graduation ceremonies for the students who had graduated from ESL, GED and other programs during the year. Afterwards, they were speaking to one of my students at the reception, and he told them, "We love Mrs. Cooper and we take very good care of her!" He meant it too. My Mom was impressed - I've been doing this - working with difficult populations, both in the prison system and in the school system for 34 years now, so I guess that fact that I really care about them shows. It's reciprocated by their respect. I will have to retire next year, and I'm not ready yet!

I have to admit that we do wonder about not only what's happened here, but also what's coming. The island has been 'dead' for years now, economically speaking, but this appears to be the grand finale, the 'crash' of what was left of our society. Everyone's understandably flooding out of here, and that looks poised to cause ripple-effects unlike anything we've seen yet. I do worry, but it's kinda like 'the walking dead' at this point. Every man for himself and so forth. I guess that's why we need the humor! lol
