One never really knows how much faith to put in a Coop.. until the storm hits.. then you know how good or bad of a Job you did... The pens should be fine provided I take off all shade tarps to keep the wind from getting hold and tearing them and the Coops to shreads...

My birds will probly be hiding.. I hope there not stupid and roost up high... I hope the come down low and get out of the winds...

Best of luck! I hope you and yours stay safe and hunkered down! And I hope you get rain and little wind!

We got Iked 2 years ago and were without power for 16 days. We didn't have chickens, then. We tried to build a hurricane proof coop, but you never know! We really need rain, too.

Good luck and God bless! Thankfully I don't have to worry about hurricanes. It's those sneaky twisters we have to watch out for.

I'm up here 'safe' in the Huntsville area, but have friends in Santa Fe and Galveston that I will be praying for. Good luck getting through it.

Thanks everyone... Im buying plywood and 2X4's for a few pens that are low to the ground for flooding... and I dont mean flooding like feet, I mean like 2"'s... SO I plan on building them a peir, no, not for fishing... but so they can get out of the water..

Just in case.

In regards to the oil.

Tropical storms/hurricanes specially on the east side of the storms push very high tides ahead. Plus right now is the full moon so tide will be running high anyhow.

I expect we will see higher than normal tides so the oil will be pushed furtehr into the marshes.

Good luck Tex.

sending prayers and good thoughts your way. I am near beaumont texas and we ar watching it closely . we were hit by ike and rita both were not suposed to hit us so we are gun shy when it comes to hurricanes. there is still several days away for it to do what it wants. stay safe.

I grew up 35 miles from the Gulf so I remember well all the prepations. My father is in Rockport. Err on the safe side. I will be keeping up with your thread . Hugs and prayers. IF there is an upside to this it is that this is best landfall where the oilspill is concerned. Batton down the hatches.

miss red not to far north of you in Centerville. We are on the Leon County Sheriff's evac. list for people needing a place to keep horses
and such during the harricane evacutions. During Ike we had some pretty high dollar ropen' horses over night. Like texascowboy I hope we can get some rain and not wind out of the storm.

Good luck texascowboy
