Hurricane Irene - Watch out East Coast

Doesn't look good for us here in CT either

Best of luck, all you New Englanders! This year has been the craziest year, weather-wise.... I live in Northwest Georgia, and as you guys probably remember the tornadoes that went through Ringold, GA, well, they missed us by less than ten miles....Ringold was pretty much leveled.

About three weeks after that, we were hit by 80 plus mile an hour winds with absolutely no warning whatsoever...sunny skies, and then all of a sudden, the winds whipped up something fierce ( and yes, I ran out to throw my chickens into their coop, but I was terrified! ) ran back inside and tried to keep my kids calm...but then it really hit and we were all shouting "go to the basement"!! And as we were running to the basement an enormous tree right outside the front door ( Just a few feet from us ), and oh, man....the noise.. it was so scary. My youngest still hasn't recovered from it. When my neighbor called me, ( we were still in the basement ) and told me it was ok to come outside, we walked into a different world....it was so eerie..there were atleast 25 trees down all over the cul de sac... huge ones....root balls sticking up over ten feet high....several down on all our houses, and cars....it's two months later and we still haven't got it cleaned up completely..

Didn't mean to rant, but good luck to the east coast! This weather has been really wierd...

Oh, and I also meant to say: weather such as that, (tornadoes and the like) are pretty much unheard of around here...

From what i can see..were in CAT 1 area..85 MPH winds...
Down south is CAT 2 and 3... 105-120 MPH winds..

I still dont think it will come this far inland... but the cape and boston may get slammed...

We also didn't think Katrina would come that far inland when we lived in Baton Rouge, either... but come she did, and then her cousin, Rita, came and visited us a month later. We got it even worse with her than with Katrina in Baton Rouge because we were on the right side of the eye.

Shortly thereafter, I promptly returned to California where all we have is earthquakes. To heck with that hurricane stuff! I've lived through quakes, and I lived through Katrina and Rita back-to-back... I'll take my earthquakes over the hurricanes ANY day of the week, though neither is fun. And the advantage of the hurricanes is at least you know it's coming and can prepare. Earthquakes just show up unannounced, like a mooching cousin that never has anyplace to stay....

My heart goes out to those of you on the East Coast that have had to put up with BOTH this week!

I think we may get a good amount of rain and wind, but hopefully nothing too terrible. I do know that I'll be staying inside with my chickens though! We don't live too far from one another. Let me know if there's anything I can for you!

I wasn't expecting any storms until Tommorrow or Staurday... we already have pouring rain, whipping winds, tons of thunder and lightning.... I had to go rescue the animals from it..... my chickens are hiding and refuse to go in the coop, I may make a another attempt to rescue them again soon.

I think that was a concern I heard on the news this morning - the northeast were due to have storms today, then more rain from Irene. There are fears that the ground will be soft from the rain causing issues with power outages (trees falling over, etc.).
