Happy to help. Feel free to send it on to anyone else who may benefit from it. I had trouble researching this topic because there simply wasn't any good information on it in one place.
hopefully the same thing happens as what happened to us this week... On wednesday all the news stations were telling everyone to head for the basement... tornado is coming... its on the ground
I went running to the corn field with camera in hand.. I know Im nuts... and there was not even enough of a breeze to blow out a candle...
we got enough rain to wet the driveway down and that was all..
60 min away they got a F-1... (a good breeze)...LOL

We lose power around here when someone sneezes near a utility pole, so we finally pulled the trigger and bought a generator. My neighbor always jokes that we lose power in our neighborhood when I have eggs in the bator- it's SO TRUE. And guess what? I got a delivery of 17 eggs in the mail today! Kiss of death.
We stocked up on propane tanks yesterday, preparing for the worst. At least we don't have to worry about heating the house.
my husband finally bought a generator, but he left it in my in-laws garage. Fat lot of good it will do us, they wont even use it because they live in Worcester and never lose power. He just left it there and never brought it home. Well, at least it's not an ice storm and we don't have to worry about freezing our behinds off, and it doesn't get dark early.

when we had the black out many years ago we cooked as much as we could as it thawed.. we had coolers for drinks and stuff that gets used all the time so that we were not opening the fridge. .. I had a friend that worked at a gas station around the corner from a camp ground so he has 3 ice chests... i called him up and bought about 20 bags of ice and threw it on the top and in the middle of my freezer and then locked my freezer.. that stuff was ok but the stuff in the fridge freezer we cooked and had a neighborhood cook out... everyone cooked what they had and it was a pot luck
