Hybrid Cross Between a Duck and a Goose: Do Gucks Exist?

Yeah, but they're both still ducks, you know? And even then they're mules, they can't produce offspring. (Although I am DYING to know what a Muscorunner looks like!) I know I'm coming off as really cross, I just don't see the point in trying so stubbornly to do this when science has already deemed it impossible. My heart goes out to all those dead eggies. :/

I know where your coming from, and I am not trying to argue, I am just doing this for Sh*ts and Giggles. It taking up any space in my incubator and we dont eat alot of goose eggs so its affecting nothing to me. I realize if anything does hatch by the grace of god, and it is unhealthy, I will not let it suffer, I dont prolong a life if it isnt worth while

As for dead eggies, how does it *really* matter? Check out the incubation forum, I bet there will be hundreds of chicks lost this season because people didn't know how set their eggs, what temp to use, what humidity, assisted too soon, etc, etc. I see no problem if someone want to try to hatch something that no one else has been able to do... I just hopet they will keep good records and perhaps work with a university if they do manage to get some fertilized.

Here is a photo taken on May 10, 2015 in Lawrenceville, NJ of a male Egyptian Goose, his mallard mate, and their 12 gucklings. So clearly these hybrids are possible and do happen.

Okay, so, Egyptian geese aren't native to North America, correct? I'm sure they're out there, released by humans to become an invasive species. But they do not naturally live in America. Mallards do not live in Africa. So how on EARTH would these two species meet SO MUCH that they could/would mate and have living offspring....?

It is more likely that the female mallard was rapped by other male mallards or domesticated drakes , the goose could have bred with her but those are not his children , if they were science would have already taken the ducklings. he still shows the fathering instinct becuase he may believe that the ducklings are his but his semen would have not developed correctly for the ducklings ducklings that would have hatched, basicly not his kids its more like a step parent relationship thing.

This is likely someone's yard or a farm, since mallards and Egyptian geese live on completely opposite ends of the Earth. So it can be assumed that the property owner keeps all sorts of species. Whatever they are, they're not duck/goose hybrids. Wanna know how I know? Egyptian geese aren't really geese at all, they're shelducks. So even if they ARE somehow his babies, they're not viable, and they're still not deese!

Part of me feels bad for that male, mallards don't typically mate for life and he's gonna be left even more confused than he already is!
