Yup thats what i said. I took em home n washed as much of the oil as i could off before i coated them w blucote let them dry up and then put them in a proper dust bath. They gave me eggs within the wk. I sent him pictures :lau

Both ideas are really good shes very excited to read our thread as ive told her about you keeping parrots. So im about to turn it over to her and ill let you know what she says. Probly should have her be prepared to take notes theres so much info :lau

Now that were friends Im really glad for your new eggs and that you have diff lines than me :D probly come in handy for tradsies later:D
You bet ❤️

That is so cool how they started laying within a week - wow - I am happy for them even though they are no longer here LOL maybe I’m weird lol I just love the little things I mean they are so innocent and cute and sweet... of course that doesn’t stop us from having a nice meal but we care for them nicely before that... lol It is great to raise your own food and know where it comes from.

Now I just wish mine would get back to laying but it’s still chilly here and I’ve about had it with winter even living in the south

:lau i can tell! And us too, winters not been that bad this yr comapred to the two snows last yr tho so im not complaining.

Not weird at all! i feel the same way and ive seen it expressed over and over on the proccessing thread too. Maybe were all weird? But theres even a thread for proccessing day support!it was cool to suddenly have them lay. i have the pics ill upload at least one

Awwweee ❤️❤️❤️

Those poor babies they must have been much happier after they got cared for. once in a while one of my males gets a bit rough when he’s “really feeling it” But mine never looked like that, maybe a few missing feathers on the back of the head.

I have this one male his name is Taco (that’s another long story) but there was a fight I had to separate these two boys that came of age and the one was like scalped, that was Taco, before his name was Taco anyway. But the short of it is it basically saved his life because there was supposed to be a Taco festival that weekend and it was cancelled (for the third time ) so the scalped one got named Taco lol ans because he got named and I felt bad for him getting so beat up he became the breeder roo of that pen and his agressor went into the freezer.... and Taco is a pretty good roo, he healed so fast it’s amazing these guys they heal so quick, humans should bottle that up somehow and use whatever they have that power heals their wounds! You can’t even tell he was totally scalped there is no scar - nothing.

Now I knew they would fight and I had been keeping an eye for it they had been getting on well and I was waiting on my new pen to arrive to separate them anyway and I swear you turn your back thinking everything is fine and the next minute it ain’t fine at all!

So yeah I kept Taco and well the other was dinner but I had also read that you really shouldn’t breed the ones that are super aggressive anyway because you don’t want to keep that aggressiveness going, I mean you can’t get rid of it totally but I guess I read you can lessen it by not breeding those birds if possible.

So that’s how Taco became Taco after he was scalped and now all the ladies love him I tell him when I add a new hen (well this was last summer) I say Taco you have to say hello first you can’t just oh.. oh nvm...oh... getting to knowwww youuuuu

He doesn’t waste one second. Then there is Cujo he’s a bit more laid back. Those are my main men.

There is Phoenix my son claimed that one so I’m stuck with him even though he’s a bit small. He’s got some red in him. Every time I would “cull” my son would say “you didn’t kill Phoenix did you?” No ... not yet... jk! Lol!

I think I have some Texas males but I’ve no idea and since it’s winter and no one feels like bumping uglies no one is fighting or crowing so *shrug* no clue. I think Phoenix has a few Texas boyfriends in his pen. That’s a mixed pen of weirdos...

I like to name the males that are breeders and Mark their leg with a band so I don’t accidentally eat them... one time I was doing a big culling and I looked down and noticed a leg band *oopsie* that was “Little Foot” and I didn’t notice the band til...after lol

So I’ll get this new big pen and that will House a ton of them and then I’ll have my brown meat birds and eggs from them that should work well... and then I can mess about with the silvers and whatever I get from this batch in the bator in...8 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wonderful story :love

Happy endings are the best :love

I hope i can have some who i know like that, do u know if they get tough like a chicken if its older?

Shes decided after ur input, on a cockatiel :hiti made her read all ur fun ideas and everything she wants a pet bird

Guess hubbys gonna have to let me buy the celadon for myself:oops:

Do you mean rough like the meat? I don’t know but I’ve not heard that. I’ve eaten “older” chicken and it was not great no lol but I’ve heard of people culling older stock and eating quail and not complaining so I don’t know? Hrm.

Well a cockatiel isn’t so bad for noise it shouldn’t shatter your eardrums like some conures I know.........lol you can shut her door at least but they are not too loud there is prob videos on YouTube but I don’t have any since it was so many years ago I had my last tiel he talked a lot. He was pretty cute... sure loved to hump that food bowl though

Yup tough meat. No worries I still got some time to figure that out.

I supose ill consider the tiel

Im glad you at least talked her out if the conure :lau

Yea buddy lotsa lotsa fluffy butts:love

Im startn to get anxious to candle again even tho u can hardly see jack in a quail egg:rolleyes:

I can see them swimming around well I call it swimming. I’ve checked these more than I normally would since they were shipped I have “worried mother syndrome”

I have spot checked a few once a day just to be sure there wasn’t some sudden death or something.

Last night I did check them all again, some eggs are more dark so you can’t see much of anything no, some are lighter and I could make out an eyeball or what looked to be maybe a wing tip, also some veins that look like long red swimming worms could be they look that way cause this book I’m reading called The Troop omg it’s sooooo good ans soooo gross I like horror, especially things like IT with a group of kids, like stranger things, anyway The Troop has these contagious worms in the book so looking at the eggs I was like omg worms!

I’m silly.

I’m glad I was able to help at least sway her away from the parrot lol

You know what my mom told me? Cause I tell you at your daughters age I BEGGED for a bird just the same and I would have taken anything but at the time I decided to beg for the cheapest one just a blue parakeet! And you know what she said?

“When you move out you can have a small many birds as you want”

And when I moved out I had as many birds as I wanted and still do haha!

I remind her when she visits I say mom you told me I could have them when I moved out!!! Ha!

You know what I got instead? A turtle. She found a small tortoise and she put it in a box and left it for me in my room... she didn’t want my dad to know cause he was against pets. Let me say that was one spoiled rotten turtle - my friends decorated his tank with puffy paint his name was Jimmy. He lived a very long time and if not for my nasty aunt he would prob still be alive. I was the only one of us 3 sisters that was allowed the turtle cause my mom caved to me haha
