I :love your stories!

Im sorry that happened with the dog, but its good information for someone else to beat the wrong doers if it happened to them. Sounds like those people were morons and cowards who shouldnt have owned a husky in the first place. Information abounds about how difficult it is to properly take care of those guys. My neighborhood has a dog that causes trouble, and it got one of the neighbors little dog. Theyre the warden of the parish(county to everyone else in the US) jail and his son, a city cop, it got the wife/moms little dog. They were here after blood, askn if it was ours. Another neighbor figured out where it lives and we havent seen him since but its worriesome. I have no doubt he wouldve eaten my birds if he got ahold of them and that he has in the past we just didn't catch him and had coon problems at the time. Years ago. The little dog incident was recent but it came back twice on those people. Once it made for a grand in vet bills an the second time took the little dogs life. RIP Smokey.

Well ill let her keep the redone cage in her room with her resposibility to keep it clean. Really tryn to teach her resposibility, she struggles in the area. Here is said cage

Entirely sanded down and repainted, add a frame to rest on and a droppings pan, it could be something nice. its not rusted through anywhere except the back legs and cage bottom which has been covered in hardware cloth and makes a rest frame neccesary. Weve supplied the sand paper, but shes not using power tools because thatd defeat the purpous of investing lots of time into it. Dad will build the frame for it and we'll buy the paint.

Yeah dogs can really cause an issue because people can be so irresponsible like you said they had no business having that dog and they are famous for killing animals I saw one break a coons neck in seconds once! (Didn’t have my small micro farm then)

That’s a big vet bill poor Smokey :(

That is a nice cage to clean up I’d say. Pretty good size and all! It’s definitely fixable.

She could technically keep quail in there ya know haha!!! Unless they are flighty quail they may not make much room of the top area but she could put some (quail safe) plants and make it all nice looking maybe hang a plant inside to take up the space at the top... she would have this whole sort of cage terranium thing going on... then she just needs a battery powered tiny fairy light strand you know made of wire they are super cheap, and she could wind it around the outside where they couldn’t reach it... would be super cute! Heck I might do that hahahaha

 that would be So Cute! Im def gonna let her read your thoughts on the birds and i think you've been very helpful Thank You! She loves the christmas lights we've helped her hang in her room and those fairy lights sound too cute. I think your idea is absolutely amazing :flshe will do it w flock of celadon :D

I hope so! I use those fairy lights around my house ha lol I guess I just love them lol I have them above my kitchen cabinets and on the mantle and even in the fireplace... when there isn’t a fire which there hasn’t been for ages so... lol

But yeah she could make a whole cute thing out of it and she would be the only one around with such a cool set up in their room! Plus quails are so fun to watch lol they do some stupid things lol and they bounce funny...

What would be quail safe plants? I know my peace lilys arent safe for anybody  they were Grandmas so they stay and get put out of reach
Hrm not sure exactly I know I’ve looked it up before but I can’t remember - I know I’ve seen different types of grasses in little cute pots used inside hutches and pens. I’d just do a search and see what they like and what others are using. I saw a video once on YouTube where someone had a pot of this grass that was long and sorta hung over the pot and this little quail he liked to hide under it it was cute lol

I think if she wanted to she could keep up to six in that thing, w enrichment, if she really got into it. The top would be alot of uncessecary space but its nearly 3 ft in width and depth. We got it as a quail cage the guy had crammed 15 into it and theyd grown to 6 months without laying so he was frustrated. I found him on craigslist and when i got there i could see they were a bad line that was poorly cared for. Everyones backs bare, some with scabs, way to many roos, all oily from being rained on without cover and hosed off without ever touching dirt, terrible. I rehabed them and ate 3 extra roo's then some were racoon food:he some lasted til around a yr after i got them but eventually all perished.

Wow! How terrible! No wonder he didn’t get any eggs keeping them like that!!! It’s good you got them, even if they didn’t last long they had a better life while they did.

I have an idea for that extra space well the first idea was some sort of hanging plant inside so it wasn’t bare, but then I had another idea!

Now I don’t think coturnix will “perch” I know California quail do cause well I’ve seen them when I lost one lol but instead of traditional perches you could put some branches for cover with leaves or something I did that in a hutch I had inside before they were suitable to go outside and live, or you could even have dad build some platforms like little shelves maybe they would jump up and sit on them I’ve no clue LOL

And if she doesn’t want to hang a real plant inside she could always go to the craft store like Michaels and get fake ivy vines and drape it through the top wires were they won’t be able to reach it anyway so it would be a false ceiling or wind or all around the top with the fairy lights! Lol

I’m just full of it today I guess I dunno. I’d like to do stuff like that but I spend most of my artistic time on my computer in graphics lol so I don’t get to do so much crafty stuff anymore. I used to make a lot of little jewelry and things but all that is stored away in the attic now lol no time

But I am excited cause I’m going to get a new big pen for the new quails with a bit of the tax money! And I paid for that silver collection so just waiting on shipping can’t wait to see what pops out of those eggs!!! KC farms was really nice to work with!

Yup thats what i said. I took em home n washed as much of the oil as i could off before i coated them w blucote let them dry up and then put them in a proper dust bath. They gave me eggs within the wk. I sent him pictures :lau
