I’m back, new eggs on the way!!!

Of course of course! I went to your profile page and read everything. My daugther wants a conure so bad, are they troublesome?
Some people love conures and some don’t. Conures are very demanding (usually in my experience) some parrots are not quite as demanding (my Amazons prefer to be left to their own trouble except when we have singing sessions in the kitchen) conures scream - a lot. They like a lot of attention - all of it. I read a lot about them and how they were not likely to choose a person - mine did. She hates everyone, if my husband shows affection she loses her mind. I am trying to work with her, it is slow going. She is only happy ON me, and then if I do something she doesn’t like say - make a phone call or talk to someone she bites me in the ear and it hurts lol the other day she literally charged at my husband. She’s the only parrot I have that I did not hand feed myself. I have hand fed my Zons. They hate everyone equally, no bias there.

All the parrots are funny they are just a lot of work. Lol so just do some research and see if you maybe want one or not. I prefer the amazons because they are hilarious and don’t care if you walk out of the room and don’t come back for a few hours, if they want me - I will know about it. But they have each other and they are quite happy. Both boys. It gets a bit awkward in mating season... I can’t wait til they grow out of it. The noises they make are so annoying lol and they “hump” their toys... I used to have a male cockatiel who also mated his food bowl. Birds are nuts. Totally nuts. I guess that’s why I get along with them? *shrug*

I’m a bird girl I don’t like dogs or even cats much, even though I rescued a cat I found 90% dead at the end of a dead end road, and still have her and my daughter left behind two cats after she died and I had to take them but they live outside. I can’t have cats inside - I will literally die as I have allergy induced asthma and can’t breath. So we only have the parrots inside and the brooder when babies come!

I have had extremely BAD dog experiences so I won’t get into it but just seeing dogs is very high anxiety for some people and I’m one of them.

Birds it is, all the way.

...and you probably knew I would say this because it’s like the 3rd time I have but...speaking of singing sessions I have a video for that too!!! HAHA! It’s my only video with over 1000 views!!! I’m such a crappy YouTuber my 13 year old is way better at it!

Here are my crazy Zons....

The double yellow head is Petri and the singing one with blue front is Rico... so he likes this song lol it’s his song!

Yes I do remember that! I knew I saw someone mentioned it the other day couldn’t remember! So it was you! I think it’s cool we get some that are so blue inside even if they are just normal outside lol
Thats what made me start this line of questioning because ive seen that too! With this batch as well as others

I Dont want any sort of parrot, thats a fact. I have three toddlers and i equate them to baby birds :gig I know ive seen my aunt take care of her macaw and theyre alot of trouble. This girl of ours is turning 14 and it would live in her room exclusively. So i considered it, responsibility and all that plus DH is also askn for it but they Really dont know what theyre getting into. DH Thinks he does because his dad keeps them but i know DH better ;) DD saw one in a pet store that was actn crazy and she thought that it was the cutest thing she ever saw. Really my nerves couldnt take all that screaming. Ima convince her to keep a few quail inside :p maybe if i can get the celadon :D

Ok you are wise LOL!!! You would go crazy when she wasn’t home and the bird was screaming for her. They are very much attention birds.

Ok so yeah some ideas would be like you said a couple quail hens or a pair - maybe a pair of colors she likes or picks out? Or like maybe 2 girls might be better - more eggs for her to collect, no crowing, and no mating that hen to death by the male LOL... unless you had a few hens to 1 male, so 2 little hens might be perfect she could even try working with them, I had begun to hand tame a baby California quail from my hatch but I honestly didn’t have the time and so I just left him be with his friends and they are all wild and crazy - some people have had success in keeping a pair of California’s and actually taming them a bit.

When mine were babies I had one in particular I would work with on the office floor and he would sit in my hand and I was training him to step up.

I also have a white Texas quail named Widget. I don’t know if he’s a boy or girl, but when he was a baby he was super tiny and so I had a separate brooder for weaker, newer, or smaller babies and he was in the “special zone” for a while while he grew a bit more. He’s fine now, maybe a hair smaller, I babied him quite a bit because he was so small and cute and sweet, now he’s outside I have his leg banded so he doesn’t end up in the freezer... when I go outside to feed them widget is always bouncing like crazy when he sees me. I swear that quail knows me, I mean they all do but I think he knows me just a tad more... I like to think so ha!

So maybe you could hatch a small mixed batch and let her choose a few hens? Or like you said hatch some celadon eggs and if you get a blue egg layer she may really love that for a pet!!! Maybe you would get 2! Or more!

OR now here is another thought... I don’t much care for parakeets I mean they are sweet and cute and all that but my last pair I sold to someone who wanted to breed because they were laying (the girl was lol) and the boy was going batty and I was not wanting to breed keets so I found someone who did want to breed them, maybe they had babies I’ve no idea, anyway their chattering is not that annoying with just 2, if you want to keep the noise down maybe 2 girls or 2 boys.

OR to take it one step further.... yes I talk a lot. A cockatiel. A male and even some females (though mine did not) will talk some. They will learn to whistle songs. My male was very chatty with his words. They don’t scream much not like a conure no no lol... but maybe if you are not familiar with them check YouTube to be sure you wouldn’t mind their little call they do. They are just a bit of a step up to a keet.

If all else fails get a turtle. totally quiet! Never makes a sound! Ha! Or a lizard!

But I still agree with you - a special quail or 2 would be best :)

You have 1 more post than me on Your thread :lau but Your talking too much? :lau please! :lau

Seriously i think your right it would drive me nuts screaming while shes at school all day i dont see a parrot working out at All.

I tried to convince her to get a parakeet knowing theyre much easier but she wasnt having none of that

Maybe if u say the cockatiel isn't bad... seemed like i had a friend who had one that was kinda bad but it didnt get much attention so probly not a good pet to base my opinion.

Really i was hoping there'd be some runt who she would take to which i remember happening often w quail before but Now im back to No Runts! :fl lemme buy a dozen of the celadon eggs :fl then i would know she would have enough to keep her happy and i could have a small breeding flock :D

It depends in all honesty on the bird. Some cockatiels make great pets others not so much. So that’s why I saved it for last in the post just not sure it would be a right fit.

I like the celadon idea bestest!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️

And nope I don’t want any runts in my “food” either LOL! No runts! Not hatching my browns yet - no eggs - hopefully by March they are laying like crazy again, or at least by April, I want to do a BIG batch of the jumbo browns from my stock so I can ya know... ya know... lol eat.

Oh hey I was gonna ask - do you do a garden as well? I can’t wait til spring we are rebuilding my long raised bed as it’s basically falling apart and it’s not able to be saved this time... so we have to rebuild. I have to have a long bed on the side of the house because the back yard is like a small forest - no sun.

I hate not having my garden in winter when everything is dead. I must rather be outside with my birds and chickens!!!
