I am a bad candler??????

I can't tell you how many times I have looked at that sticky. That's what makes me feel like such a loser. I see the veins there but my eggs don't look like that.......I wish we had a sticky that said, this is what a fertile egg looks like at xxxx days, this is one that isn't making it so there would be a comparison.......sigh.....keeping my hands off the bator til next week.

A brighter light makes all the difference.
Also my little cochin eggs light up like a carnival - they are light brown but much smaller so the light passes through easily. In those I could see movement, complex veining and the black dot on day 7. My other eggs couldn't see anything very well...

I to am a failure at candling eggs. I tried about 50 different turkey and chicken eggs today that are about 12 days old. I don't see anything. IF you can see liquid moving in them like a water balloon they are bad right?

get the right led flashlight.. First time candling we never know what we are looking for.. killed a 9 day old chick not seeing anything.. Now I can see veining on day 4 or 5 and movement on day 9 or 10.. brown and green eggs here.. You will know what your looking for as you learn from the first time.. Good luck and Im sure you have babies growing in most of them.

I also mark the ones that look questionable with a "?" on the end. that way Im not candling the viable ones all the time. I just re candle the "?" ones every couple days , and compare to a good one.. at day 9 I toss the clear ones.

That means they have detatched air cells. They can still develop, with detached air cells, but from what I understand, they have a harder time hatching. I've read here that if you have detached air cells, you should hatch them in a carton with the air cell to the top.

my son has a big led tripod like I've used (I put a toilet paper tube on it and so on) but I have found I LOVE the littel led lights that doesnt give light to the outside of the egg... The big ones to me almost shine over the light, the little ones sit on the shell and show me the inside..

I know everyone wants to see what is happening inside the egg, but you hear all the horror storys, I dropped the egg, I cracked the egg. Each time you handle the egg there is a chance something will go wrong. After the first few hatches and you have seen what you need to see, only candle as you place the egg in the bator (to maek sure there are no cracked eggs).
And on day 18 as you are taking the turner out (to pick out the duds). And many times a person will misread the egg an take out a good egg. Mother Nature knows best, let her do her job.
