I am flaming mad at the vet.

Thanks, but these people are not our regular vet - our vet is not open on weekends. I had no intention of being rude to the front office staff, as I am well aware they are doing what they are told to do, which is why I am going to ask to talk to the person who sets the fee structure.

So sorry to hear about Mr. Yackers. After working in vet's offices for years, what in the world was the breakdown of those charges? I have never heard of such an extremely high bill for euthanasia. Not in 2011, not for CA, not ever. What in the world? Again, so sorry for the loss of Mr. Yackers.

Surely that can't be the cost for euthanasia alone!!!

Did you leave the body with them or bring it back??? They charge an arm and a leg for disposal fees. Did you get an itemized receipt???

Sorry about your loss too...

So sorry Debi. I understand the cost hitting you hard. When I put Foenix to sleep several days ago it cost me $220+. His private cremation was $180 and the actual euthanizing cost the rest. Now tell me: why does it cost $180 to creamate? I used to work at the kennel that has the crematory and I know exactly what goes into the process and I really thnk the price is rediculous.

I took a TINY (2 weeks max) horribly sickly kitten in (from a neighbors barn - not mine) to be put down. They asked if I wanted the body back. Not knowing, I told them no, that it hadn't even been mine. I just about crapped when I paid the bill. One shovel of dirt in the field behind the house would have buried that tiny body

It just never occurred to me that the disposal fees would've been THAT costly.

I think it is a slap in the face to a person who is losing their pet.

Ha you got off cheap. When I had to put down my 14 year old lab it cost me 590.00. They had to x-ray,emergency room, office visit and cremation.
