normally the would sell for 40$ a pair, but not here, everyone is a farmer and is use to the price of a chicken, or duckling

it is also hard to find homes for them here, a lot of people would try to raise them outside, or butcher them. as they do not get that they are a pet bird and cannot survive outside. and have no meat on them. it is actually quite frusterating.

The reason parrots are so expensive is all the time and care to raise them. A tame, talking baby African Grey can cost $1500. People see that high dollar amount and think that they will get rich. Wrong -- if you spend 5 years raising your breeders, you have to charge that much. But, those get-rich-quick guys buy a bunch of birds, try to get them to breed, fail, then dump them when they loose interest. You can buy those ex-breeders for ~$800.00, which is what I am sure Dylan is. The guys just told me a story to sell her on Craig's List. I got the last laugh, Dylan is a great bird. So you with your friends -- you will be the winner on the experience.

But, it is more fun than mowing lawns or delivering papers! You make something. Learn how the duck people ship their little call ducks, and ship mated pairs. But, you have to accept then that some people like your friends might buy them and kill them. Sadly, not everyone has the guts to raise birds properly.
