I am so mad I could spit nails!

I totally agree with this. I started making my own meals around 6. Then again, my parents didn't give two sh*ts about me. My brothers are another story. Totally spoiled pampered golden children... but they're also idiots. Go figure, my 22 year old brother's not even intelligent enough to know what Antifreeze is or how to pay his own car insurance. And if it wasn't for the Dollar Menu at McDonalds, my 20 year old brother would have starved by now. Apparently, it's real hard to make grilled cheese.

You know, I totally felt that way until I had my own. Yes, they get on my nerves sometimes, but I wouldn't trade them for the world. My nieces on the other hand.... don't get me started. If I could sell them, I would.

Pretty sure that 16yr old and for that matter the 18 yr old can make a dang sandwich even if they couldn't cook. My 5 and 6 yr old daughters know how to warm up food in the microwave (supervised) and sure as heck know how to make a sandwich.

I say make 'em fend for themselves enough to where doing the chicken chores will seem like a blessing!!! I support you completely on your rant about the kids!!! You go girl!

we have tried everything, and I do mean everything to get him to be a productive member of society (by my standards) and have not been able to get him to do what's necessary to succeed in life.

I know you'all are gonna call me a softy, but could he be depressed and everyone is unaware of it... including him? Sometimes it only shows itself in a person's inability to do anything - 'no affect'. Sometimes we just don't really see things... and this includes me with my children.

Maybe professional advice before you throw him to the wolves?

I think society takes this stance too much and too often. Her sons are lazy. My kids are lazy. We as parent have gone out of our way to make their life easier and in the process we made the work part too easy. Live and learn. She's doing right by them. She's doing her part as a parent and teaching them another lesson. Just like she learned from her mistake in making the work part too easy.

I don't think kicking an 18yr old out is neglect, but not feeding a 16yr old is, IMO. He's still a minor and still under your care. There are a lot of things I would agree with taking away from a child (and yes, at 16, he is still a child), but food is not one of them.

There is no reason to 'feed' a 16 year old. They are perfectly capable of feeding themselves, or they ought to be if you've done your job properly. By that I mean they get their own food out, cook it, eat it, and then clean up after themselves. If you truly think that's neglect, then you're in for a lot more work than any parent should be.

Edited to add: And the children will be extremely ill-prepared to live in the real world.

I would have no problem with what you all are referring to, though.
