Are his ears tagged? Maybe he is a relocate from the loving state of NJ....land of the bear huggers... I had one that big in our yard, not the one that killed our chickens but he usually walks away. Put your painballs in the freezer, I have some frozen I wish you were a bit closer I would share

GET ELECTRIC fencing... I pray you never go through what we did. I hope you get him right away.. can't you shoot, shut up and wait... lol umm yea I just shot him?? or tell em it took you a while to get the huge thing out of the woods...

I just had to add bear cans do not work, especially for bears this big. Better he is at the garbage than at your home or chickens at this point. PLEASE be careful when entering the house, do not assume a loved one is searching the fridge for a meal... it might be the bear.

Shellie, don't worry it isn't you, he's been feeding at other peoples places around you for awhile and some of them may be even feeding him there thinking they are helping him out.

Well those folks that do that should be slapped

as they are making those bear think of people as a food source. That bear wont last long if he keeps doing that, bear season is right around the corner...

Just got to be careful with it around now..you don't want it attacking your little guy..

As kodiakchicken noted earlier:

"Also, since you now know that the bear has been attracted to the garbage, if you don't remove it the Game Warden could cite you for "baiting" the bear. "

You are baiting that bear. Good luck with the warden.

Whatever helps you feel better.

Shellie, you'd be better off not "feeding the troll". Be safe and fill that freezer when it's okay to do so.

OMG.... I can't even imagine a big bear hanging out in my yard. With 2 little boys to protect, all rules should be null&void. I hope you are able to Kill this bear. I hope you are able to get control of this situation. When you say 'warden' is that the police or are they different? I would make more calls trying to find some support. Good Luck.

We have tons of bears around here. Last spring, I had a bear visit my chickens every morning, same time for almost a month. He would stand on his hind legs up against the coop and just watch for a half hour or so. He seemed to like my chickens. Never once went after any of them. Literally, just stood there and watched them. He never tried to get the chicken feed either. This bear, standing on his hind legs was as tall as my coop which is about 6-7ft. high. He was a big bear.

My neighbor puts out trash all the time that attracts the bears. They go through his garbage almost every night. One night there were 4 of them. That freaked my out a little bit.

That one poster was correct about baiting...if you put garbage out around here, and have a bear problem, it will be your fault since you baited them, simple as that. The cops dont care why you put garbage out, it will still be your fault. That is the way the law is written. It is so common place to have a bear in your garbage here.

I love having the bears around as most of them are very laid back and will not hurt you. There are some, however, that are a little wacked out. I was chased by one of them twice. Then he was put down.

Best of luck with your bear.

Sort of a basic fact of country life is that you just CAN'T leave your garbage outside unprotected, not even the night before pickup, and not expect to be trolling in all sorts of animals. If you're lucky it's just raccoons and coyotes and such, but if you're not, it's bears.

I know you're not putting the bags out there *in order to* feed the bear, but as soon as they are put out they BECOME bear bait, in any practical sense of the word.

At the very least, keep your garbage INDOORS (the smelly stuff, in the freezer) til the morning of trash pickup and then put it out at dawn, preferably in a cage or plywood box.

The more people leave their trash out where it trolls in bears, the more problem the bears are for EVERYONE.

Sorry you're having trouble but this is just the way it is in the country

about 3yrs ago my aunt had her min collie picked up and hauled off by a large black bear! It was like 20 ft away from her when it grabbed it. She got home from getting groceries at about 9:30 pm she told my 5 yr cousin to go let the dogs out to go to the bathroom. well as she unload the car she heard the dog yelp and that was it gone she seen the bear running into the brush luckily my little cuz was in watching tv. She called the game commission and they brought a trap but it didn't work all they caught was a old fat coon. I've been trying to bag it every yr since then! Its still up there I see it when its not in season! Oh and the don't have anytrash outside so that just shows ya you don't need trash to have bears!

Our bear came through during the summer, ate all our sweet corn and left. The corn patch is less than an acre from all of our bird pens. He didn't bother the birds, just wanted the corn. The bugger ate all of our hard work. Sorry you're going thru this Shellie. Hopefully he'll move on. I know how terrified I was to go outside at night when we knew he was here. You can't see them well in the shadows of the woods either. Be careful.
