SterlingAcres, well said!

*News Flash*

Poconos, PA State game wardens have announced today that due to the increased amount of calls from property owners, they are allowing property owners with bear infestation to shoot and kill any bears that are on their own property and close to chicken coops.

The wardens also recomend that homeowners that choose to use this option should use a high power rifle and not paint ball guns. Some homeowners have reported recent shootings with the paintball guns with little success on scaring the bears away. Some members of a national chicken web site have recommended the use of frozen paint balls if using a paint ball gun because they sting more and have a better chance of scaring the bears away.

The warden again advises against this method, and opts for the rifle method that will cause a severe sting and usually results in the homeowner needing a large freezer and a stew pot to be available. Mr. Warden also said that "if you shoot him on your property or close to the hen house, we will overlook the fact that hunting season is still one month away" recognizing the homeowners right to protect life and property.

If you could have someone urinate around your barn and or area you want him away from does that help? We did it with deer feeding in our gardens growing up and it kept them away.

So an inquiring mind wants to know, what does bear taste like? Only bears down here, are in zoos, and they aren't on the menu...lol. I would love to try it sometime, is there some place that sells bear meat?

So glad you and yours were hurt! I can just imagine the looks on peoples faces, if they spotted the same bear the next day.....with all that paint on him....lol.

I may be totally off base here but if the bear should return would calling the police or emergency services be able to help?

my friend on Kodiak Island in Alaska has a lot of problems with bears and she bags up her trash and throws it in the freezer till trash day , that way it doesn't stink up the house.
I did not think Pa was bear territory but predators are showing up in the strangest places lately.
Good luck getting your bear and glad you and DH were not hurt

But I don't think I would be shooting it with anything that wasn't lethal for fear of pi$$ing it off

I'll have to google an see if someplace does sell and ship bear meat. Probably cost a mint, but maybe I could get a small amount to make a stew.

Thanks for your reply.

Edit: Bhawawawaaaaa, just noticed that SterlingAcres lives in Poconos, Pa......didn't catch your joke the first time around.....

Im my opinion, if you are going to shoot it, then shoot it with something that kills it...not just tortures it, like frozen paint balls..

(those are just cruel..and could break a bone or something in the bear..then it would just suffer and die slow in the woods).....just use a real gun..that kills it...get a clean shot so it doesnt suffer..and have bear stew, so the meat is not wasted. good luck!
