I am still debating.....Doms or RIR RCs?

Depends where you get them. Hatchery/feed store Reds are often aggressive. I've never heard of an aggressive standard bred R.I. Red male.
I'd go with Dominiques, personally.

Yeah, I would never get my stock from a hatchery...I have heard horror stories about RIR roosters being mean....

I agree. I started out with six RIRs. I ended up with two hens, and four roosters, they came straight run at TSC. One rooster died. I had three left- Shorty, Mickey Chickey, and Brock. Brock was to dominant rooster, he ended up with 2 1/8 inch spurs and Attacked everyone. He made so many visitors cry, so he was checked off the list. Then, Shorty got a mean streak in him. At the same time, Mickey thought he would, too. They ended up killing each other. Well, Shorty won the battle, but He eventually died that night. So save yourself and don't get RIRs. There is a test on mypetchicken.com, and I just filled it out for cold hardy chickens, prolific light brown, brown and dark brown layers, and I got these breed for you to choose from-
Australorp
Delaware
Plymoth Rock
Star
Sussex
Wyandotte

I think I would either get Wyandottes, Australorps, Or Sussexs If I were you. My sussex eventually died, but she laid an egg every day-and eventually double yolkers just about every day. Australorps are somewhat pretty, and especially cold hardy. My two wyandottes laid speckled sort of eggs, nd it was pretty funny-when it would snow, everyone but them would be cooped up. The would be out trying to dustbath in the snow. They were a sight to behold. I personally don't like the silver ones, I like the golds. And there are Blue Laced Red Wyandottes-They are very pretty, and sort of rare. Alot of people adore them.

I've raised both and the Doms are easier and more personable. The red birds are just too crazy for me, idk what it is about them but they are all out nuts. Doms are sweet, gentle, very hardy, good foragers etc. GO with them.

Here we go!
I think Buckeyes are just the best. One of the most cold-hardy birds, excellent foragers (being the most active American breed), nice personalities, good layers, grow at a nice rate, great color, the list goes on and on!
I will say Buckeyes are no longer very rare, but could use more breeders (as do many, many other breeds).

Well, most of those aren't too rare and have single combs. I have Light Sussex but they take close to a year to mature and have single combs. Wyandottes don't lay well enough for me....I have them in bantam size already....
