I am still debating.....Doms or RIR RCs?

Yeah, I would never get my stock from a hatchery...I have heard horror stories about RIR roosters being mean....

I think I would either get Wyandottes, Australorps, Or Sussexs If I were you. My sussex eventually died, but she laid an egg every day-and eventually double yolkers just about every day. Australorps are somewhat pretty, and especially cold hardy. My two wyandottes laid speckled sort of eggs, nd it was pretty funny-when it would snow, everyone but them would be cooped up. The would be out trying to dustbath in the snow. They were a sight to behold. I personally don't like the silver ones, I like the golds. And there are Blue Laced Red Wyandottes-They are very pretty, and sort of rare. Alot of people adore them.

I've raised both and the Doms are easier and more personable. The red birds are just too crazy for me, idk what it is about them but they are all out nuts. Doms are sweet, gentle, very hardy, good foragers etc. GO with them.

I will say Buckeyes are no longer very rare, but could use more breeders (as do many, many other breeds).

Well, most of those aren't too rare and have single combs. I have Light Sussex but they take close to a year to mature and have single combs. Wyandottes don't lay well enough for me....I have them in bantam size already....
