I blame ALL of you!!!

GO GET ONE or TWO all right all ready.

I was SHOCKED you only got two after the advice you got about something happening to one.

The frizzles are SO adorable. You should get it/them now so you don't have a huge age difference.

I would get one if I could. My local feed stores are only getting in Banty Mixes. (Includes silkies).

I'm thinking of getting 4 silkies for the cuteness. My soon to be egg layers are now 9 wks old and too old and too big to bring in the babies, so I'll have to put the silkies elsewhere.

Now go get them and show us pics.

Again it will depend what breed the frizzle is. Very few places sex any bantam breeds anyway. Single combs are usually easy to tell quickly. By 3-4 weeks the roos will start to grow combs and the pullets won't. By 6weeks I'm usually sure enough that I'll sell my japanese bantams as sexed by their comb. Some other comb types and slow maturing breeds are harder to tell or my welsummer crosses hatched with already large combs and only one turned out to be a roo.

If you do extensive research on chick mortality rates, you will find conclusive evidence that, in order to grow 2 chicks to adulthood, you must begin with 8. Here's the breakdown: 25% die in the first 4 weeks from assorted mishaps and unknown causes, that leaves you with 6; of those 6, another 30% will die at the hands of predators and other accidents before maturity, that equals 1.8 chicks (we'll round to 2), that leaves you with 4; one in 4 chicks is incorrectly identified as to gender, now you're down to 3; this is where it gets tricky - you may feel that 3 is too many, but by Murphy's Law, if you really want 2, and that's how many you have, something will happen to 1 of them, then you'll only have 1, and that's just not acceptable!!! How's that for logic???? The bottom line is, you must get more chicks!

If I was having mortality rates like that I'd get out of keeping chickens instead of getting more.

Akane, please tell me you know I was joking! I was just helping My2wandc figure out how to get more chicks!!

BC - now that you mention it, I think I've convinced myself that I need to get some more, and I've got plenty!!!

Next to silkies, frizzles are the sweetest chickens you'll ever get ! So if they get any in you have to get some, they don 't fly and they're the best natured !
