SIL has a Pilot and loves it. I've only ridden in it once, but the thing turns on a dime and the trunk has a seat that pops up like station wagons used too which I think is very cool. No idea what year though, or if the same things apply to this year's model??
FIL drives a Chevy Astro Van, and before that another Astro... good vehicles, VERY spacious but also very boxy. Not exactly stylish but if you need to move seven people and be able to take out all the back seats and move a bunch of cargo it's a good choice.
Of course I love our truck... she's an older gal, 1993, and she's got some beauty marks... but she's the most gorgeous color blue (y'all know which Chevy blue I'm talking about right?)... extended cab so the whole family plus two guests can fit and a bed for if we need to haul... or able to haul a trailer too. Also love that I'm up off the ground. Getting on the highway in the Taurus with Semis is scary, feel a wee bit more secure at the truck's height.
Donno exactly what you're looking for other than roomy... do you do any hauling? Delivering/picking up supplies or is this just for toodling around town? Have to have 4 doors or 2 is okay... 4-5 seats or 2 okay... or do you want more? All sorts of questions to even begin narrowing it... Oh, when you do have it narrowed some look up the model in Consumer Reports... they are very accurate, from my experiences, about the odds of this or that problem cropping up with this or that year and model... from wiring to engine to door handles breaking... VERY handy stuff. Door handles aren't so pricey, but ones known for engine, tranny or computer problems... steer clear.
OHHH one more thing. We rented a Jetta once and I about had a heart attack when I tried to speed up to enter the highway and the car refused... guess whoever was the first driver, the one the system 'learns', was a city driver ... didn't realize that until we got up to Arkansas and was talking to Dad and he was telling me that Sis (not the sis I usually talk about) bought a used VW bug, the new kind, and had the same thing happen and they told her it was because the car's first driver basically programs the car as they drive it and then the car, knowing the driver, is supposed to be able to anticipate, accommodate their actions... so if you buy VW don't buy used! Also, with VWs Dad was really peeved, being a DIYer, that he couldn't even check the oil, the brake fluid, etc... n'mind changing, topping off... they're self contained systems that ONLY VW mechanics are given the special tools to open... to even check your oil to see if it needs anything you have to put it into the shop... pricey... same goes for headlights. Sis had one blow and Dad could not just go to AutoZone and buy a bulb and stick it in... nope, have to put it in the shop. Pretty expensive light bulb. So, if repair costs are a concern that's something I'd definitely keep in mind... bad enough paying for big things, but to have to pay out the nose for something tiny like that... and that's not something you can delay without risking tickets... ouch.
That's about all I can think of.... Good luck in your hunt!!
