It's not how much it can hold but how fast you can get it there, the 2011 SS is speed limited at 155. I hate that. I bet there is another 30 MPH by the tach and the gas peddle

Cool car Steve.

We have a 99 Suburban 2500 4x4. Has a 454 and gets about 12 mpg. It's rated to pull 12,000 lbs. It has a lot of torque and really moves. I'm sure the diesel version has more torque but I don't like the sound diesels make or the smoke. Plus the diesel always cost more which irks me because it's not as refined as gas. Seats 9. Since it has great ground clearance it gets around in the snow real well. Fortunately I have a 2010 Caravan as a company car. So the mileage issue isn't a problem. We only put about 3000 a year on the Burb. Very Roomy.

I have a 2004 Honda Civic, just rolled 281,000+ on it and it runs like a champ. Wish I could say the same for the body on it, has some things wrong with it, no fault of its for sure!!!! LOVE that car, would buy another one in a heartbeat, but if you want roomy, go for the Accord. My daughter has one of those and it was a running jesse when she parked it.

I have about 98,000 on my Honda Accord. It's had one repair and that was not a major expense. I've owned GMs, Chryslers, and Fords. Accords consistently do well with Consumer Reports, but so do other Hondas. If I bought another vehicle it would be a Honda. I expect this one will outlive me, though.

Okay, I know they have gotten a lot of bad press, but I love my toyota camry LE. The trunk is roomier than most in same class, they drive forever and are low cost for maintenance and they do not nickle and dime you to death with petty annying type repairs. And they are made in the USA! I bought mine with over 132K already on it, and I am, let's say closing in on 200K very quickly, and I do not even hesitate when some says road trip! My last toyota, 1986, I sold with 150K on it, only because my son wanted me in a car with airbags, because many of the older drivers we have in this state drive tanks and don't look where they going or can't see if they did. He figures my luck of doging them is gonna run out someday. LOL

However, I second the Lexus vote as well! A friend of mine got a Navigator, last year and OMG the bell and whistles that thing has and level of comfort for road trips and driving in general is truely unbeatable. But we are also talking about ohhh about a $20K difference in price points too.

Good luck, I would recommend renting whatever you are thinking of buying for a week or so, and do what you would normally do with your vehecle, and see which fits best!

I drive a lovely Honda Fit. It may be classed as a subcompact, but dang does that car have space. I quite literally MOVED everything except my furniture in that car (and I have a lot of stuff). It did take quite a few trips, ROFL.

I know a "lot" of people with Honda Fits. Even the, uh, largest of those people seem quite comfortable with these cars.

The gas mileage is spectacular, too.

The only thing I can think of is that if you do a ton of mountain driving they might not be for you. Mine does fine on them for vacations, but I might want more power if I was driving on them all the time.

I'll readily admit I've driven this car over roads that I shouldn't have been on unless I had a pickup truck -- or maybe an off road vehicle. It handled them well.

I don't much like driving it on snow. Then again, I don't like driving anything on snow, and that includes a snowmobile. I might not mind one of those snow tractors...

My Honda CR-V has 176,000 miles on it , and is still going strong. If you want more luxury, I vote for the Pilot. Hondas rock!

I would suggest a Jeep. The new 2011 Grand Cherokee looks very nice.
