Really?! I don't care either way, but Rocky has been "different " from the get go. Grew in super fast (growth wise. feathers were a bit slow). The body is more "boyish" compared to Jewel (taller, more "muscular") and the tails are completely different patterned and the tail feathers are messy and curved and squared vs round. The only thing that had me thrown was the lack of comb growth. His/her is more red than jewels and bigger wattles .. I've heard that speckled Sussex's are hard to sex up until the point they either lay or crow. Id be thrilled with either .. a pullet is ideal but a rooster is fine too.
A 12 week old cockerel should have a bigger and redder comb than that. But, maybe you should post again in a couple weeks to be sure.

Rooster or hen?
16 weeks old.
We think it's a Rhode Island white or Rock white

Wow, perfect timing! We have 5 chicks, an assortment of 2 Polish Crested and 3 Americaunas. Just was in the yard trying to get good shots. Believe me, it was not easy. Hope these shots are good enough to tell . Thanks!

Alright, this is one of my last few chicks I'm debating on gender. Buff Orpington bantam, slowest to develop feathers, small pale comb, thinner legs, skittish and flighty since day one. But the face flushes around the eyes to a red color when this bird gets into spats with the big gold lace cockerel.
