That's a cockerel. The comb is large and red for an 8.5 week EE, and he also has the long, droopy saddle feathers developing

Thank you, both! Today he convinced me that you are correct! He started trying to crow, which seems early at one day shy of 9 weeks, and has already started grabbing some of the young girls by the neck. I guess he's an early bloomer!

Can you tell if this is a pullet or a rooster. He/she is around 9 weeks old. This one has me confused since he/she looks odd compared to it's sisters.

I'm leaning toward cockerel, but I'm not absolutely sure. Please post again when he is about 12 weeks old.

Ok, thanks for trying, I'll try again in a few weeks. One day I think it's a pullet, the next cockerel my other birds are pretty easy to tell but this one not so much, lol

so I have two EEs that I am unsure about the sex they are 9 weeks old now, here are pictures:

(three row comb but still pale in color)
#2 her comb is pinker than the other EE's but is a single row

And I also have an 8 week old Buff Orpington that has a comb that is turning red and has me worried...at what age do they start growing their big girl combs? last week it was still pale...it hasn't grown any bigger just turned darker:

All of them look like pullets so far.
