I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!!!!!

Pretty! Congrats! :)
You might get another tomorrow, they're spotty at the start sometimes.
As for telling who, either watch and wait or....put lipstick on the vent.:D
For the ones who think they lay at a set time, nope when it is time it is time.
My chickens are 20 weeks and 3 days old.....and today I got my first egg!!!
I'm so exited!! It's much smaller than my store bought eggs.

So, yes, I can't believe it! I've been waiting so long!

Now, I have some questions:

1. Will there be a egg tomorrow?

2. How can I tell which chicken did it?

Please answer these questions!!!

Also, I thought you might like a picture:

If your home during the day you could listen for the “Hey! I’m about to lay an egg” or “I just laid an egg” song. Many chickens will get pretty loud right before or right after they lay an egg. On the weekends, I can almost count the number of eggs I’ll have by listening to the chickens whether I’m inside or outside, they are that loud.

They way that we tell which hen laid what egg at home is to mix some food coloring with petroleum jelly and put it on their bums in the morning before any have laid.

This way we can make sure we incubate the correct eggs. If you have six hens, do five different colors, like red, yellow, blue, green, purple, and then nothing for the sixth one. Depending on the ring of color on the egg, you’ll know who did it. Or if there’s no ring.

Works every time I need to do it. Also, the eggs will get bigger as time goes on. When my first batch started laying one of our bantams laid an egg the size of a marble! Now hers are more golf ball sized.

Really? I thought hens usually lay in the morning?!?!

I thought that too until getting information here! Even my 86 year old mother that grew up with chickens thought that. She realized it was because that was the only time they checked. I’ve yet to find one first thing in the morning when I let them out.
Me too!! Well after 8pm when I found in egg, who ever has started laying is doing it a night.

Congratulations !

We have two golden laced wyandottes. You are right, brown eggs. They lay when they do. This morning one girl laid an egg in the run before we got up. It wasn't there the night before because I know. They can lay anytime and any where, at least mine do. Sometimes mine lay after 4 pm. Ours are not young and will be 7 years old in September so I get an egg every other day. Watch for a tiny egg or extra long eggs, they are usually double yolkers. Have fun doing what you like to do. :frow

Thank you everyone!

I see that most of you posted yesterday, and then some today.
Well, yesterday after noon, I found my second egg!!! It was not in the nesting boxes though....in the coop right in front of the door!! Lol, funny chickens!

I think the two who laid the eggs was Cream Puff and Kiwi because they were the only ones doing the egg squat!

Yup, squatters are the ones laying. Which egg belongs to which squatter is another story. You'll need to catch them in the act.
Ear color tells you the color of the egg they will lay. White ear white egg. Red ear brown egg. Blue ear blue egg. Etc. Of my 8 I have 3 that lay brown eggs. One brown layer is taking a break. Size and shape can tell me who usually but sometimes I just don't know.
