You worm them every month that is so hard on their stomachs every other month is sufficient and I only worm my little filly every 3 months....every thing is dead in the winter here it get so cold.....and don't feed on the ground will help to not have to worm so much.

I later seen in another post of yours $16 for wormer for one horse that is crazy.....order maybe on line 2-3 bucks a tube will treat a 1200 lb horse.

Wormer at my local feed stores is $5 per dose for a 1200 lb horse. Why would it be so much for you?

wow fattie. I don't mean to sound rude or anything but....

I worked with a large horse vet for 6 years (and have owned horses for over 20yrs)... Not once have I ever heard of someone worming a horse as often as once a month. Especially if it is a senior horse. That would be a precursor to ulcers.

I'd get a second opinion, especially if you are being told to worm your horse this often by the same vet that is ripping you off blind. I feel that worming your horse so frequently with a standard worming paste will be quite detrimental to its health. If you are worming frequently, it should be done no more often than once every 8 weeks IMHO.. I personally am of the view that if you operate good pasture management, and dont take your horse out and about, you should not need to worm more than a few times a year.

It is dependent on the circumstance though.... and yours, I am not familiar with! So please don't take offence.

AND, on another point

It really shocks me to hear how bad things are in your country.... Australia really is the 'lucky country' (or are we just kidding ourselves!!!!) We are already rising our interest rates on a regular basis, and last month we sold the most new cars in history....

Yes horse feed is expensive ($12AUD for one bale of GRASS hay, $30AUD for one bale of lucerne!)... but we are sufferig nothing like you guys seem to be. It really saddens me to see what has happened to the economy through REAL peoples eyes (I work in finance)...

gosh... if you can't give away a horse like that... things must be bad...

OMG, your prices are outrageous! I pay $25 for a trim all the way and $50 for shoes all the way, my farrier is awesome! My vet does charge $40 trip charge, but she does not try to spend my money. Senior Feed here is between $12 & $15 a bag. I use MSM for my gelding ($7 for two months) I do use Mare Plus for my 2 older broodmares but $40 for a large tub lasts me 4 months between the 2
What supplements are you using? I give my own shots.

I'm paying $40 for a trim here in VA. $60 for shoes...

We have learned to do our own vacs also and my vet will 'call in' scripts if we know for sure whats wrong. Bless his heart!!

How is the rice bran working? I just bought my first bag for our hard to keep Arabian gelding. He always looks like I am starving him. Someday someone is gonna report me

Wow, i think I'd find another vet......

I have a great vet here, it is $30 for the trip but if you schedule it with other people in the area he splits it between however many their are. Then I tell him what I need, or he looks the horse over and we talk about things...... He has convinced me to do my own shots and stuff, but if I need anything I can meet him somewhere along his route and buy it... and he charges me about what it costs him. I think when I paid for shots it was cheaper than buying them from TSC. i had an emergency call when one coliced late at nite in the rain, on a Sunday and I didn't have any banimine..... he came out gave her the shot stayed with me for a good while till she looked better, gave me extra banimine and billed me 2 weeks later for only $120. I would have charged more... LOL I don't put shoes on any of the horses... all sand here, but hay is $$$$
