We have 7 and I feed them all for about $70 week, that is only $10 week each. It costs me $30 a week to feed my pigs. I feed a good 12% feed and good Bermuda Hay. I worm everyone every two months and get feet done every 6 weeks. Of course we have our own land so no board.

I have my own (swamp)land too. Costs me over $100 to get one horse's feet done (front shoes only & trim the back, no feet problems). I worm every month. Shots are $25+ each, and you need several. Vets charge $65 just to drive down here, and I don't trust my 1972 rust-bucket trailer. My horse requires senior ($20) feed PLUS expensive supplements and good hay.

you may remember when you were here that the barn adjoining my property has horses in it. I know she rescued some of them and she knows a lot of other people with horses, if its a desperate situation kind of thing let me know and I will mention it to her.

The farrier here charges $60 per horse for shoes, but the dirt on our land is soft enough for them not to be shod until we get them ready for trails. Wormer is $16 per horse, hay is CHEAP here - alfalfa #2 is only $8 a bale, 50 lbs of rolled oats is $12. I love living in the boonies!

I give her Rice Bran, Black Oil Sunflower Seeds, Corn Oil, & "Bloom". The rice bran is $28 a bag that should last 6 months but gets moldy fast here in the salt marsh. The vets here love to spend my last dollar and more! $65 to come here, $45-$60 for an exam, $25 for coggins test, $28-$45 per shot, $25 for each mosquito that bites them....on and on....Farrier same way.

I hope you find a good home for him. It is a VERY sad time for horses. On the news last week they had a horrible story of a horse that had been dead approx. a day that had been dumped in a field east of Denver. When they got to looking around they found a few complete skeletal remains of other horses that had been hidden by trees. It's absolutely shameful. But look on Craigs and the breeding just continues to happen just like dogs and cats.
