I Can't Get This Right...

I'm not very sure,,,, so look into this,, You may need to not use your eggs after using Ivermectin. (not sure duration of time ether) Also I understand that there are topical versions as well as ingest-able type??:idunno
Read label on product. I never dealt with Ivermectin
There is a suggested egg withdrawal period. And it is the pour-on version. Next time, I'll invest in a bottle of Elector PSP.

I just hope I cleaned enough!

Progress,,,,, in the right direction. :thumbsup
I think a lot of it has to do with that Tricide Neo you suggested. It seems to have worked well on more minor bumblefoot cases. I have a feeling the other foot will require surgery.

Poor baby. I will do better from now on. At least they're getting used to me handling them now. And the coop, run, and yard are more duck foot friendly. And SUPER clean after the mite situation.

How is your duck doing? Did you see the vet?
I did see him. He said he wants me to finish the antibiotics I put her on. He increased the amount I give her. He said he wants to see her again after the antibiotics course is done (9/30). If it doesn't clear up, he wants to open her foot. I'm glad. I can open chickens, but her foot is so swollen that I'm thinking I will have to really dig to find anything, and I'm worried I won't be able to find the infection, you know what I mean?

He didn't even charge me for the visit. Good vet. 😊

What an awesome vet! I wish we had a great vet like that here. Most of ours either charge a ton for little service, never get back to us about results, or poor in knowledge. You are lucky!

I know what you mean about the surgery. My pekin, had bumblefoot and the skin healed perfectly but the bump remained. I did not want to cut into her and possibly make it worse. I spoke with Isaac about her, and he said he ones with bumbles that have been fine with them for years, and the antibiotic would kill everything in it. She walked just fine so I never took it out. If I had to cut into her, I would be cutting through a lot of tissue and be very painful.

I'm VERY lucky to have found this guy. He's not an avian specialist, but he said he has been in our rural area for so long that he's just started treating them. He said that if he runs into something he doesn't know, he calls UC Davis (one of the best vet schools in the world) and talks to the ppl there. He says between that and his access to meds and his knowledge of procedures, he's gotten the hang of it. I imagine after 30 years of it, I would, too.

My girl seems absolutely fine otherwise. Happy, eating, getting into trouble. She lays every single day. All 4 of my ducks lay every day like clockwork!

Got another appointment on 10/5. Fingers crossed. I'd rather not have to make her undergo surgery.

And thanks for listening and caring. I mean it.

Hopefully she won't need the surgery. That is great she is feeling well. Let us know how the appointment goes.

Another update:

No surgery needed! Yatatayay!!!! Her feet are improving quickly now!

But when I got home from work this afternoon, she was LIMPING. And it's her right leg, which is the almost healed foot.

C'mon, Figgy! Do me a favor, will ya, and stop getting hurt!

I think it's just a sprain. Nothing is swollen or hot. She lets me manipulate the joints. Not sure how she did it. She's in a crate on a soft, cushy towel with food and water within reach.

Just goes to show that no matter how much I try to get their coop and run to be duckie friendly, they will find ways to get hurt.

Gaah, indeed!
