I Can't Get This Right...

Bumblefoot foot can be a pain sometimes. Even with best intentions things happen. I found blackberry growing in my duck area. A couple messed with it and hurt their feet on the thorns.

I highly recommend enrofloxacin, generic baytril, it will at least prevent it from going systemic while the foot heals.

Best of luck with them. They are adorable!
I have Baytril, but I was leery about starting it when we are seeing the vet soon. I'll call the vet and ask. Heck, maybe they'll give me some right away.

Completely understand, just wanted to make sure you were aware it was something you can use. Hopefully the vet visit will go well.
Thank you. Honestly. I've been stressed out about my new job (I'm teaching at a school for students who were expelled from their comprehensive schools). I think I was preoccupied with that, and that's partly why I missed her bumblefoot. And I also think it's partly why I got so emotional. Well, my stressful new job and all the blood from her little foot....

However, after just a couple of days of soaking, debriding, and bandaging has already led to some minor improvement. And I think swimminsss tonight with her sisters helped, too. I think I'll being them in for swimminsss every other day until the feet are healthy again.

Tonight, I'm cautiously optimistic.

That is great that you are seeing improvement. Bumblefoot can take a while to heal sometimes. My Pekin usually takes a few weeks to a month. So it can take a while.

I like to keep mine in a pen outside with my other ducks. And I put them in a dog crate in the coop. I find they do better when I can keep them outside. Playdates definitely cheer them up. I surprised you can fit 4 adult ducks in your bath 😄.

Don't beat yourself up about it. You are doing great. Bumblefoot can be hard to tell in some ducks, especially since they are prey animals. You are taking care of the issue and trying to prevent it in the future.

They are outside all day. I bring them in for treatment in the evenings. Their feet are cushioned and wrapped, and the bedding in the run has been completely cleaned and built up to make a springy cushion.

I'm simultaneously looking forward to and dreading the vet visit.

Well hopefully the vet won’t say to you what the one we went to said. It was my husbandry and I said okay we live in the mountains I pick up rocks all the time the ground replaces them just as fast. And so far I have only had 1 duck with bumble. A Runner. I did not like that vet. They abuse their feet doing everything at 100 miles an hr. So just realize that it’s not you fault. You’ve done a great job getting their pen where it is now and Hopefully treatment and antibiotics will do the trick.

Just finished soaking her feet again. I noticed a couple of worrisome spots on one of the others, so I soaked Marmalade's feet, too.

I spread an old bathrobe on the livingroom floor, fill a big bowl with Epsom water, and sit with my duckies. Tonight we watched duck videos on YouTube and Spongebob. I think it was @WannaBeHillBilly who said ducks like Spongebob.
