Those of us with 115 plus heat have learned that the animals survive with shade and water, but we do a few extra things to to keep them a bit more comfortable. BYC has helped me with a lot of ideas on that. I was very, very worried about my chickens the first summer I had them, but they made it through and I have learned that they are resilient. I have watched the survive the heat in person and have read stories of them surviving in Alaska and Canadian super cold weather. What amazing creatures they are.

And as for me, I used to hate the heat, but knew I was asking for it when I moved to Phoenix, so I embrace it. Funny thing, I AM happier here. There are two reasons for that. I do better with more sun (yes even at 115 I am sad if the days are cloudy) and having family nearby is good for my heart.

Wow, it's 63 degrees here today and a little rainy, You should see how I bundled up to go check on my very pregnant camel!

During the hottest part of the summer, you won't find a single thing moving around outside. My chickens find a cool patch of dirt and settle down for a good long nap. Every once in awhile someone will get up and toddle on over to a waterer and then right back to their cool patch.

Last week on my way to work I notice the temp on the car dash board said 4 degrees. It's not bad though here in Utah it's a dry cold.

The running joke at my husband's job is when he stops wearing shorts to work - around mid-November, although this year he would have been wearing them until mid-December if he was still working (early lay-off this year). He's a polar bear, though, he thrives in the cold.
