I'm sorry.. I'm horrible!! But, I couldn't wait.. I went ahead and candled the eggs and I'm glad I did.. DS has been having a very hard time over the last few days (as I said in an earlier post, he has his own issues) but after a really rough day, I put a smile on his face and he was absolutely amazed.. Out of 18 eggs, of course 4 showed absolutely nothing because they were store bought eggs that were used as "test eggs" and were not fertilized.. But out of the remaining 14 eggs, 7 showed definite veins (with one definite embryo that we could actually see!!!), 4 showed nothing other than a yolk but I know it's still early, and 3 were too dark... I did notice that one of the ones with veins was very porous.. I know these aren't very good quality to hatch but we will see what happens.. I do have one question though.. I know several people have mentioned the yolks being scrambled.. What does this look like? A few of the eggs that have veins looked at first like they would be "scrambled" but I wouldn't expect to see veins if that were the case... If the yolk was in fact scrambled, would the chick still hatch?

How far along are your eggs? I always candle one or two early because I can't stand to wait, lol. Don't worry--I don't think you do much harm by handling them, as long as you're quick, gentle, and don't do it during lockdown.

I think if the yolk were scrambled, they wouldn't develop at all--I think "scrambling" just mean to shake them up so much that they're not viable.

I'm so excited for you! I LOVE candling--it's so amazing seeing that living creature floating in its embryonic world.

Today is day 5.. I am going to "try" to wait til day 8 or 9 to candle again so DS can see the babies swimming around before they get too big... As far as the scrambled yolk, when I candled them I could see veins but the yolk wasn't "uniform".. I'm new to this whole candling thing but all the pics I've seen, the yolks are pretty uniform.. But, when i saw these, the yolks almost looked like an upside down stretched out "U".. That's the best way i can describe it.. and either side kinda moved freely from the other side.. Does that make any sense to anyone but me!?!?

Candle on Day 10 or 12....it is really amazing at that stage.

i was totally obsessed with candling.

This was my first time also. I'll admit, I candled at least one egg everyday! except for during lockdown, of course.

I couldn't help myself.

AND - of my all my eggs, only two didn't hatch.

I think if you are QUICK and ALWAYS make sure you have clean hands... its ok once in awhile
