Oh well, she has turned out to be an awesome writer. She is trying to get some of her work published.

I don't read to my children as much as I should

I started reading "Heidi" to them awhile back, but got away from it-I will get it back out tomorrow. Another series that will follow-Little House On The Prairie. They will hear Little Women/Little Men/Jo's Boys, Tom Sawyer/Huck Finn, and Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, to name a few.

I read our brats Tolkien, Voltaire, Milton, Twain, lots of stuff. Some they didn't understand, and I had to explain the big words, but they understood most of it. Kids are a heck of a lot smarter than most of us give them credit for.

I don't think they need to understand the big words right away. I just wanted them to hear adult vocabulary. As they got older, they would ask what words meant. We did this with two languages at the same time but never pushed too hard. By middle school they were both fluent in English and Spanish so they took other language classes. My older one took Japanese and my younger took Chinese and French.
