I'm going to hug my hens now and be darn thankful that I have them.

You really just don't get it do you? It like you want to pick a fight.

Lifespan refers to the typical length of time that any particular organism can be expected to live.

Find somebody else to argue with. I don't mind an intelligent discussion, should you choose to go that route.

See, did not originally see where you had said "life span" in the post. You have my most sincere apologies for mistaking what you had typed.

One thing should be said about Layers however.

For the first 12 weeks of their lives...they are housed in a poultry house and are allowed to roam freely within the house. Roosts are provided as well.

After 12 weeks, they are removed and a lighting schedule is done. So, in essence, they are not inside of the caging system for their entire lives.

I have only skimmed through the posts, and thus without referring to anyone in particular, I will write my own post

This is a horrible, inhumane, and illegal (animal cruelty) looking operation.
Farms like this should be shut down. Not only is that bad for the bird's health (!!!!!!), it is bad for the consumers as well! I honestly could not even watch past the first minute or two of this video

But, not all egg farms are like this. If you do not believe that, you should watch the PBS documentary on DVD called "Eggs:101" - it shows the way all commercial eggs farms should be operated! The farm they featured has more high-tech devices than the computer company where I work

And everything is kept spotless!

I am happy I dont eat eggs from places like these. At least some will find good homes. I feel sorry for the ones that have to live in that type of situation.
