I dropped my chick ‍♀️

Hi guys,

This must of happened to other chicken owners... (I hope)

I recently hatched a Serama Chick. As I'm sure most of you already know, they're tiny!!

Anyways...... Because she was the only one that hatched out of 12. We've been giving her LOADS of attention. She literally doesn't stop chirping, we are working on buying a chick the same age as her so she won't be lonely as well.

I noticed she had pasty butt and on my way to the bathroom to clean her up, she jumped out of my hand and I couldn't catch her, she fell kind of on her side and was a little wobbly but she seems to be walking fine now.

I feel so bad, she really is the tiniest. How will I be able to tell if she's hurt? Please, please, please let me know xx

I find that the chicks are extremely hardy. I would just check her over for any obvious deformities or injuries, and then keep an eye on her. Chances are she is perfectly fine, though.

That's the worst feeling, but she's likely ok! Just keep a close eye on her and don't beat yourself up about it! I'm sure many of us have had a chick jump out of our grip before we could catch them!

Oh yes, this has happened to me. I've had chicks jump out of my hands and fall onto vinyl floor, I've had them fall from an even higher place onto concrete. No injuries, no consequences. But I wouldn't advise being casual about preventing such events.

If your chick is walking okay, exhibiting no balance issues, is active and eating and pooping, you're in the clear.

I know how it feels, I once dropped a partially developed egg while candling and I felt absolutely awful.

I'm sure your little chick will be fine. They are surprisingly hardy.

I have dropped my chicks before, even though they are standard and not bantams. Hopefully, I am sure she will be absolutely fine. Remember.... Give her lots of attention!
