The chicken world can be a harsh place somtimes.

What type of bator are you using ??

What was your humitidy day 1-18 ??

Sorry you have to cull! It's good that you made the decision to end its life now, though, before Lil One-Eyed Jack suffers!

Oh poo........I'm sorry. I had that happen this summer (chick was messed up, his insides were on the outside). I guess it does happen, but that doesn't make us feel any better, does it?

I'm using an LG incubator. As many of you know frompastposts, the humidity was low sometimes and the eggs didn't get turned much. Could that have caused this?

Crossbeak is caused by a big fluxuation in humidity. This can be going up or dropping down. The eye being gone was probably not caused by humidty.

Are you sure you have to cull it? Neither crossbeak nor only having one eye is fatal. Some can live with crossbeak and having one eye won't be the end of the world for it. I am not a big fan of culling just because it didn't come out perfect. They come out the way they do for a reason. He made it out of the shell didn't he? So he must have some will. At least wait and see if he eats and drinks.

SO IT IS MY FAULT ISNT IT? I feel so terrible! She's deformed cuz I forgot to add water sometimes. Cries: i haven't culled her OR moved her to a brooder yet. She's in the bator.and even with one eye and a screwed up beak she's too cute! Then again, I've never seen a chick withsilkie in it that wasn't cute

I'm not sure what to do. If its my fault, I dont think she should be culled because of something I did.the humidity was at 40% but dropped to 16% a couple times.

I have kept a chick with cross beak. She lived through it, though she had a harder time eating. She wasn't in GP (general population) like the rest. She came from a hatchery, and she was too cute too. You can try to keep her. I don't see how missing an eye will be fatal. I would watch for infection in the eye socket, though. Good luck!
