SO IT IS MY FAULT ISNT IT? I feel so terrible! She's deformed cuz I forgot to add water sometimes. Cries: i haven't culled her OR moved her to a brooder yet. She's in the bator.and even with one eye and a screwed up beak she's too cute! Then again, I've never seen a chick withsilkie in it that wasn't cute

I'm not sure what to do. If its my fault, I dont think she should be culled because of something I did.the humidity was at 40% but dropped to 16% a couple times.

Well, in a way yes. But we all make mistakes, even the mommas. I had a momma duck get off her nest for six hours on the coldest day possible. As a result, a duckling hatched with cross beak. He ended up dying after a couple of weeks. You know why? Not because of his cross beak, but because I messed up. I let them out in the pen during the day and put them up at night. One day I miscounted and he ended up getting stuck between the other fence and the layer of chicken wire around the bottom. I don't know how long he was stuck there, but it was my fault.

Don't cull her until you are SURE there is no chance of her being able to function. I have a duck that had a stroke the day he hatched. He has mental and phycial handicaps, but rules the yard. All the other males run from him. He is very, very happy and does just fine. I also have a silkie rooster that's half blind. They adapt and find their own way to do everything. Culling is not automatically the answer.

Well, "freak" is still in the bator. I've been lazy (or maybe it's just a combo of school/work?) and just don't feel like digging around for a rubbermaid tub, heatlamp, light bulb, bedding, etc at 10:30 at night, so, I'll get her out in the morning. I went to the feed store this afternoon and got her a 50 LBS bag of chick starter. LOL. I hope she's tough enough to hang in there long enough to eat all of it.

Freak's in a cardboard box heated by a heat lamp with a red bulb. Right now she's hiding under her chicken stuffed animal in the corner of the box. She has powerade water and chick starter in a deep dish but I dont know for sure if she's eating.

Poor baby... does she ATTEMPT to eat (peck at the food & stuff), maybe if you powder it/crush it really small, it will be easier for it to "scoop up" ??

Is she pooping? input=output!

Does she seem alert/active? If not eating, will eventually get weak/lethargic, I'm sure!
