It makes it easier to pick them up and they get used to handling them.If they can't reach you they can't flog you.
I don’t judge roosters by how they act when you go in their pen, reach in their pen/coop etc to get them. However if a bird is aggressive towards me while on a cord he gets killed on the spot. Just because you can keep from getting nailed by grabbing the cord and keeping him off balance doesn’t change the fact that the rooster sucks. It makes it easier to pick them up and they get used to handling them.
I use to raise game cocks, we call them man eaters. This characteristic is never tolerated. If we can't handle them, they are worthless.I don’t judge roosters by how they act when you go in their pen, reach in their pen/coop etc to get them. yeah i agree with @Weeg , your gonna hurt him (possibly kill him) and just make him more scared of you and more likely to chase youIf you grab him and lay him gently on his side and hold him there for a few moments, you get the same affect. Your not hurting him, and putting him in a dangerous situation. Your way is not the best way, if he struggles as he gets older, you could seriously hurt his legs and injury him. Not a good idea, I highly suggest something else, and so will lots of experts on here.
It worked great for my rooster, gently and firm. I also hold his head to the ground with my finger, and after a few seconds of tlakgin to him in a firm voice, I let him up an her leaves me alone. Please don't continue to treat you rooter this way. @fatty and friends
You used to raise gamecocks and you’re just now coming up with ways to handle a laying breed rooster? Oh ok.I use to raise game cocks, we call them man eaters. This characteristic is never tolerated. If we can't handle them, they are worthless.
Man eaters are a heritable trait, so they are never used for breeding.
