I got a whole litter and mama! *Graphic Pics*

Sorry I'm off topic but ..... I'm part Kickapoo. I just don't understand what being Native American or part Native American has to do with anything.

I'm native American, but it's the human in me that's kind of sad at the OP's post title and the humor found by the mother coon's "suicide." Do what you must to protect your flock (or in this case, your corn), but the virtual happy dance is kind of sickening. OP did state that he/she was never happy at taking a life, yet titled the post Woot WOOT!!! and then described his/her amusement at the mother going down like a parachute. Sad.

They were in your corn crib huh? Well I'm glad you got them freeloading critters before they started nacking on chicken feed, chicken meat, or anything else you got.

I agree it sucks you have to kill something but we do what we got to do. I have no issue with killing predators, and yes I will kinda go out of my way to kill some (if a fox or coon is in the field beside me, they always wind up over here at my place or my neighbors. So I will shoot them out in the field, ) because of the issues my area has had with rabies the past couple years. So with animals and most importantly my daughter, I don't play around.

Woot woot is kinda a gut reaction I think. I felt that way after a racoon ate my broody hen, her eggs and all her food and then the next night I caught the racoon in a trap. I did not relocate. I dispatched.

My job is to protect my chickens that I have 'locked up', not set them up as a buffet.

It is a sick, sick feeling when you find a partially eaten chicken inside your coop or run. Our chickens are sitting ducks at night when these creatures hunt. I live in the country and there are plenty of things for the racoons to eat besides my chickens and it is my job to make sure they cannot get into the coop and run.

I can say that if I had caught a racoon in a trap before it ate one of my chickens I might have relocated instead of dispatching. But I had to deal with losing the chicken first.....so dispatching was easy.

There is a fox that has been sneaking around the neighborhood, but I haven't seen her on my property. I know she has kits somewhere in the woods behind my house. Mostly she gets into people's garbage. I'm trying to be careful about my coop, my dog and I go out into the yard several times before going to bed, I leave piles of her dog hair around the perimeter and sprinkle some used cat litter around it too (this works, actually, a lot!). I'm in the suburbs so shooting is not an option. Traps aren't either, as several neighbors have outdoor cats that may be hurt by them.

If I were in the country I think I could do it (shoot/kill the fox), but it would be difficult knowing there I'd be leaving kits to starve to death.

Enough already, folks! The OPs statement "Its never easy taking any life but in 2 months these kinda cute things would be monsters" should suffice for you. If you cannot take the killing of young predators, please leave the thread. The expressed satisfaction of dispatching predators rarely comes from the killing of the predator, but from the protection of the flock and specifically from knowing that this particular one will not be tearing apart anymore of the birds the flock owner is charged to protect.

NOTE: the "Graphic Pics" warning was rightfully placed in the title, which was very specific as well, so the OP did everything in his/her power to help you avoid something you did not want to see.

and i suppose if someone where to kill your dog for simply being on their property, it'd be amusing too?, trust me, been there, done that with one of our dogs, no it's not.

again, I do not want anyone taking this the wrong way, or thinking I'm PETA advocate, because PETA get on my nerves, and scare me a little bit...

Coons carry all kinds of disease and parasites. The possibility of those diseases/parasites being deposited on your corn which would probably be fed to your livestock is a great risk. Be peaceful and know you did what you had to do.

Dang coons all they are is bank robbers they have the mask to prove it. Cops shoot bank robbers right. There's plenty more bank robbers out there trust me. I personally don't like animals or people stealing from me. Here's one that was stealing from me I caught him red handed.
