I got dooped, but by whom???? Give me your best guess..

Will her eggs darken up if she's a Welsummer? It was a nearly pink egg.

Here are the eggs. The larger is from my Black Australorp for comparison. Then there were two tiny ones..

I don't think so.....usually an egg laid at the start of the cycle is the darkest and as the cycle ages - the egg lightens.

Many, many hatchery birds do not lay the dark egg that a Welsummer is known for (or any hatchery breed/sold dark egg laying bird) - does not mean they are bad birds, just that their genetic background does not support the dark, dark color. For the dark color, parents must have the dark color in their genetics - meaning the rooster was hatched from a dark egg and the hen (mother) lays a dark egg.

Plus I could be way off........maybe she is a different breed?

OR maybe that egg is from one of the EEs........ (now that I see the picture)

eta: gosh pullet eggs are just so adorable

Looks like a welsummer to me. The egg I think none of those eggs are hers...the green one my guess is from the buff colored EE and the white( ETA the lightest egg) from the Leghorn x. Just my guess

She is a beautiful bird but, definitely has RIR in her. I would say she is the one laying those yummy mystery brown eggs! Even though she's not what you expected she is an amazing bird and will be giving you lots of eggs!

That top pic almost looks like white ears.... if so, she would be a white egg-layer. Just keep in mind, EEs are hybrids. An individual hen will always lay the same color egg, but EEs can be and often are brown egg-layers.

Thanks for all the guesses. I hatched the white one myself, but the other two I bought from Coastal Farm and Garden in Oregon City. They have hundreds of chicks in the spring and there are always kids picking them up and walking around with them. I'm sure many get dumped in the wrong bins as so many breeds look similar when they are chicks. I'm sure many chicks are mixed up there. I didn't really care, but since I got her out of the SS bin, I had kind of hoped she would be one!
Well, I'll have to stalk the ladies and see who's laying what. My sister had a EE lay brown eggs so I know that is possible and the white one may lay blue or green eggs. I thought until posting this thread that the brown one was a leghorn. It makes sense now that she's not doing the squat and may or may not be the brown egg culprit. I was expecting a white egg out of her! So confusing, yet exciting.
I'll keep a closer eye on who is in the nesting box tomorrow and see if I can pin down the brown egg bandit!

**Update** Just went out and did a quick earlobe check. The brown one has white feathers in a circle in the ear area, but the lobe hanging down is red. The white one has iridescent ears, and so does the buff/white one.
