I got some bad ju-ju in the house pictures added

That is very cool and sad at the same time. We had a beautiful baby boy who died at the age of 5 mo and 20 days. We had him buried in a small rural cemetary that is very old. It was and continues to go through a revitalization. About 5 years before he was buried there a commitee was formed and it is now very well maintained and they have gathered alot of information about the people that are buried there. Most of the graves are from the 1800's. There are alot of children's graves there. From what I understand most of them died of small pox or other diseases. This cemetary is very beautiful and the fact that so many children were buried there is why we decided it would be the best place for him. (even though we have a modern cemetary that is right next door)
I hope that you can find out where the stone came from. It breaks my heart to think that some little child's grave is not marked. I know that that is unlikely you will find where it belongs, but I guess that is what makes it so sad.
Good luck.

I love to read about this! Hope you will find its rightful owner or just let us know what you have done so far with the headstone.

Hubby goes to alot of cemetaries and he said the stone is limestone (very similar to Civil War headstones, before the 1900's) and definately not a pet headstone.

Good luck!

You can always take it down the road to the cemetery and find a special little spot and do a little prayer thing and a blessing and place it in the ground, away from the other graves, like under a beautiful old tree, and partially bury it so you know where it is. See if that helps.

it could always be a "second" or a first tha has since been replaced. I would research and ask around. I love that kind of information gathering! yo might learn even more then you are lookign for.

good luck

Conny, my best guess is the people that lived there before had some bad bad kids and they stole that marker from the cemetery down the street from you. (Calvery) And hid it there from there parents.
I would call them and ask if they are missing any children's stones and let them know you found one hidden in the garage at the house you just bought!(or rent?)
See if they will take a look at it, maybe if you find the right resting spot your luck will improve!
Sorry to hear about your eggs.
Let us know what you find out!

i will try to get a hold of the previous owner. my husband met her once when he refolded her dads flag. i'll also call the cemetary and all whatnots tomorrow.
however if nobody wants it , my husband and me deceided that we will put it under a tree that we plan in the fall, have it blessed, a new small statue/vase mounted and rededicate it to all babies that were thrown away by their mothers and died. I think this is much better than my first idea to just give it away. Its been here for so long(the house was build in 59) I hope a magnolia is a good tree for it.
ohh and about the ducks , there were three guaranteed females some black one and one yellow and all of them solid colored. I ordered one more set off eggs and disinfect the bator extra good before setting them.

thats gonna look good me with three kids dragging a heavy stone into the cemetary. I would have to let the authorities know about it first or i would sceam for a arrest.

With no record of birth/death dates and no obvious evidence of it being split in half, AND when you consider the slot in the top... It's probably actually a foot stone - or a head stone where the name/dates was put on a foot stone on the same grave.

The slot in the top probably held a little lamb or other carving/statue at some point.

If you can't figure out what else to do with it, I love the idea of making it a memorial to all the baby does out there who are abandoned or thrown away to die by their parents. What a sweet gesture! Here's an organization's website that may give you some ideas... they do great work!

We built a new house 2 years ago on some acreage, and shortly after moving in found 6 headstones lined up in the woods 100 yds behind the house. None of them have markings, their basically just shaped stones. We also found a couple other stones on the other side of the property in the woods with markings. I figured the graves out back are either slaves, or civil war soldiers. I haven't contacted the historical society or anyone because there are no cemetaries on the land platte and I don't really want the county putting any historical restrictions or anything on the place.

My wife and daughter swear there is a ghost in the house, if it's here it stays clear of me

I kinda like lunachicks idea but I would call the proper authorities and either get permission or get the caretaker of the cemetary to set it up and move the stone for you. I would think they'd understand if you explained you think it got moved from it's grave and would still like to try and give it a proper spot and respect. Although I'd leave out the bad ju ju part of it so they don't think you sound crazy lol

Otherwise I was thinking along the lines of doing something similar but on a corner of your own property. Properly lay out the stone and express your sorrow and appoligize for the person who died and their stone being relocated like that. I'm not religious but I still believe in respecting such things and trying to keep them in their proper place. Not selling it off or putting it on display somewhere.

Since we are often unable to bury dead livestock pets (laws against a certain size of animal being put in the ground or winter when we can't bury) so they get hauled off by a rendering truck but we still have a little cemetary area where we use free chips or mistakes from making human gravestone markers to scratch out our own little marker and add it to the area. To me a dead body is just a body. It's the respect you show by setting up a marker to remember them that is important so even if the body is not there the marker should be replaced in an acceptable location.
