Take care of your hurt babies.

sorry about your birds. i know it sucks but if you could post a photo of how "not to build" it might help others avoid a disaster. be carefull dispatching the critters.

When I read posts like this, it scares the heeby jeebies out of me. My flock spends the days in the woods/yard in a fenced area that a roaming coon could invade easily during the day. I can't leave them in the safe run though; they'd hate that. Reading your post makes me realize how lucky I've been so far. I know you have to feel devastated, and I hope you're feeling better soon. Nobody should have to see the sight that you did.

coon triggered the trap but managed to keep from getting caught

tonight I will set it differently

I will take a pic of my pen later, but my harware cloth ran a foot along the bottom and about 24 inches from the bottom up. no it will be 4 feet from the bottom up.

have so much work to do today and no offee so I am off to a slow start.

NY has very specific laws to relocation, in my area you have to hire someone who has been told where they can release (that particular year) and it costs a fortune, I relocated 5 coons last year and I cost me $450!!!! Never again, now it is an eye for an eye I understand my feelings may not be agreed by all but I am not spending the gas and time to drive each one over an hour away (each direction) and I am not hiring that guy again to do it for me. I will kill what I can catch and then do all I can to keep them from taking my lively hood. I will put in new electric fencing and anything else that is needed. But I am going to treat them with the same instinctual reaction they treated my ducks with.
