I hate coons, UPDATE #52 got'em!

Depending on where she lives, a gun may not have been an option. Within city limits, it is illegal to shoot a firearm. Think before judging

Not a judgement ~ just asking.

Then I apologize, I mis-understood your previous post as critism for her method of disposal.

She stated, " did not think it would be easy to kill with an air rifle and felt that this was easier on both of us."... so I'm assuming this was the quickest and easiest way for her to dispose of her problem coon. I'd have done the same thing if I didn't own an arsenal of guns.

Will the coons attack in day light? I have 3 (pinned) chicks - 4 hens and a BO Roo who free range. We had a cute bunny that would run with the chickens but this morning I found her under the wood pile ----- in pieces! We left her outside because it is warm and for 4 years she was fine if we left her unpinned at night. After reading about the coons and what they can do I am wondering if they are watching my hens --- ! The hens are pinned at night so they will be fine but now I wonder about daytime!

What is the material you used to cover the run? Great job by the way and glad you got the coon

Oh my how sad. I have my chicks for the present in a dog carrier, and my husband took an old wooden baby gate and put some very sharp and hard aluminum wire between grates and we use that to keep them locked in till the coop is built. I live in a state park so the outside creatures, have made for sleepless nights for fear they will try to get my chicks.
I have no gun experience but I think it is time I learned. I hope you get them and get them good.

I am not allowed to fire a weapon where I live although I do have them, and I thought the air rifle would take many shots and actually be more cruel. I dropped the whole cage in so it was fast. I really wish it was not this way but I really could not let it live.

its green nylon netting I use it to cover my pond in the fall and it works great I get it at a local pond landscape store, not really predator proof but super strong and I am goin to add more hot wire around the top for added protection
