Welcome to the BYC junkie club. I had 3 hes and was happy as a clam now I have 3 guineas and 19 eggs in an incubator. My husband is just tolerating me and my Ellie-Mae gene!

I get to blame my girls, 11 and 8....we had to go get a bunny...good grades. The 8 yr has dyslexia.....but managed to test at the 5th grade level for reading! So she wanted a bunny....I went to a little farm nearby and somehow came home with 1 bunny and 6 chicks and 2 pullets. My oldest daughter couldn't find the bunny she wanted so later that week we went to another farm...2 bunnies (have 3 girls) and 4 pullets....then time to learn about hatching eggs...so an incubator....baby chicks....and more...fortunately we live on 3 acres ... now she wants a horse! mary

I had ONE. I was happy with ONE...then i came here.
oooh I want one of THOSE...and ooooooh I need one of those... ooooh I GOTTA have one of those..how many does that make? FOUR right?
Then MY HUSBAND made a mathematical error when he was complaining about a coop I needed him to build, "blahblahblah, only going to have six hens in it"....
and my ears perked up!! DID he really just say SIX??? Well, heck thats two more than i thought I could get away with!
ooh I gotta have one of them...
And eggs! Cant just order two eggs, what if they didnt hatch? Have to have a nonhatch/roo error factor in there. Better to order TOO many eggs than not enough. (oh and I picked a breed that could hatch out either silkie or showgirl..I wanted showgirl..better order ALOT just in case...
And the next thing I knew- my incubator was not big enough. The eggs were not on the same schedule. Had to get another one. Made a buddy on here- and it was ON, I tell ya...no stopping my addiction!
So, ahem, what my point is, after all this..is

Two years ago I was down to one roo. I felt sorry for him and went and got him five hens and it was on. OMG at the biddies that year. I found BYC and started seeing all the breeds that I just had to have. I now have around 200 birds and hatching season is just around the corner. LOOKOUT!!!!!!!!!
I started with one bator but of course that isn't enough for my needs. I now have three. There is always coop building going on here. I'm lucky we have the room to build all these coops. There is a rather large empty peice of land next to mine with a pond on it. HUMMMMM Maybe I should look into buying it now for what I see down the road.
My SO says I'm the only person he knows that can leave the house to pick up a loaf of bread and come back with chickens instead. All he says is where do you want the coop built?

I am newbie here. Planning on picking up 4 Welsumer pullets next month. Now know I MUST HIDE this thread from the hubby. I,too, was innocently drawn in by the "I hate you all", and got sucked in!!!!!
Why did no one warn me? My husband said to me the other night "gee, honey. Ever since you started this chicken planning obsession you have been acquiring chicken books, reading online, searching Craig's list, etc. All this will stop once you actually get some, you know. I bet you're gonna miss that."
So, I got a little cool chicken ark from England about a month ago, and have been tweaking that, adding ventilation and bigger roosts.
But, even though I don't even have my chicks yet, I find myself thinking what I could do with three feet on the back end of our cement-floored 8 x 12 shed.......
Oh, if he only knewwwww........

Trust me When you get one you gonna want them all just wait and see youll have a lot more in a couple of month!
