I have 2 pips- Updates- More pips of new chicks- need help identifying

Congrats on the pips!! Patience is the key! They'll probably start hatching when you go to sleep like mine did overnight.

I can hear them peeping- so I know they're in there. 1 doesn't look so good-- it's weeping yellow liquid-- just a bit but it's not moving like it was before-- it was the first pip and a really big egg-- I'm crossing my fingers on that one, but there's 4 other pips besides that, and 12 more eggs to go!
I've been going non-stop since I got up this morning trying to get the house cleaned well, before DH and DSS get here tomorrow-- so I'll sleep like a baby tonite and hopefully wake up to a treat or several of them

Yes indeed----- I've got 2 absolutely adorable fuzzies in the bator right now!!!!

Talk about a sure fire way to turn a grown woman into a squeeling, giggling, baby-talking fool!!!!!!
They look like they hatched early in the overnight- they're pretty dry, but they seem content so they're staying put.... especially since I broke the brand new bulb in the heat lamp last night-- argh!! Waiting for DH and DSS to get home so I can go get a new one this afternoon!
Here's some first pics-- I hate how I can't get them very clear- even with the Macro on-- but you get the idea-- they are adorable!

This one was looking up at me and by the time I got a decent shot-- it was well on it's way to sleep

And here is the other-- head lying down on top of a pipped egg-- waiting for it's buddy to come out

OK. DH and his son arrived home as #4 RIR began zipping-- their timing was perfect! We got good pics-- one especially-- right as this cutie pushed its way up through the top-- you can even see the airborne egg shell pieces!!
And of course,,,, I've got a few really nice pics of them in the brooder-- I found a great setting on my camera that is taking some really nice pics!
I've got 2 pips on my mutt eggs that were just a "test". 2 of the RIR's that had pipped didn't come out, and I can see inside the tiny hole that movement has stopped, no more breathing or anything. Sad

So, I've still got 6 RIR eggs in the bator that haven't done anything yet. 2 of the 6 look as if they may have stopped developing, but I left them in, since I'm so new at this, and my "eye" is inexperienced just yet. I took out the 3 infertile eggs (2 rir and 1 mutt) earlier in the week.

So-- here are the fuzzy beautiful babies so far. I think their coloring is just super-- I knew I'd like these so much!

Here is #4 breaking thru the barriers!

I went to bed last night with 2 pips ( my mixed eggs) and woke up with 2 peeps!! 1 more pip and a zip--- so I got a cup of coffee and was there to welcome the 3rd mixed chick into the world about 10 minutes later! We went shopping and got home to the 4th--- so all together, 8 chicks out of the 20 eggs I set ( and we're only on day 21 for the RIR's and 20 for the mixed).
I had discarded 1 of the mixed- it was clear- and have just one left-- I'm very pleased with the hatch results on those. Still have 4 RIR's and the last mixed that I think might do something-- we'll just wait a few days to see what happens.
Compared to my first hatch- which resulted in 1 out of 12-- this is SUPER!!! I know a lot of factors play in- but the new 'bator certainly has made a difference!
Will get pics of the new ones ASAP!

COngratulations! What a proud chicken mama you must be! Greetings from Central Maine! I saw your blog, and am so happy for you to be able to come to Maine and enjoy all the beauty that is here!!!!!!!!!!!

Your babies are precious.

Thanks Horsegirl!! We are loving Maine and love our chicks and everything in between!! I've got my fingers crossed that we get more hatches-- still got a handful of eggs that are possiblilties!

They look like absolute little angels! Hard to believe they'll be grown and laying eggs in just 5 months. Congratulations!!!

I can't wait for them to start laying!!! Until then, I've found a few chicken ladies in the area-- though I have to wait for eggs, it's so worth it!!!
I had a few store eggs left that I was using last week, and can't believe the difference-- well, I can-- but I had forgotten how much better fresh farm eggs are!!! I never want to be without them again
