Tails won't make a difference at that age.Yay! Thanks, I’m excited, does the tail have anything to do with it. I find it shaped weird, I never had this breed before so I’m clueless
That's not entirely true. Wyandottes are notorious for getting red quickly. The comb makes me lean pullet, the wattles make me lean cockerel. The very poor lacing leads me to think cockerel. But if the bird doesn't start getting silver shoulders/wingbows in the next 4-8 weeks then it's a pullet.5 weeks with red wattles and comb... sorry, it's a cockerel. Hens don't get red until shortly before they start laying.
I completely understand, I wasn't questioning whether "he" s right for you, just wondering whether it might be possible to keep "him" if you get fond of him.Maybe, but we have a roo and we’re not looking for one... I wanted her because I like the patterns when they are hens. The roosters is pretty too but I like the hens better, and we sell eggs.
My Azalea as a chick. She's a she.5 weeks with red wattles and comb... sorry, it's a cockerel. Hens don't get red until shortly before they start laying.
Well, we have a friend who we might breed “him” with. I will try to keep him.I completely understand, I wasn't questioning whether "he" s right for you, just wondering whether it might be possible to keep "him" if you get fond of him.
I agree. Wyandottes are known for getting red rather young. Could be either.Tails won't make a difference at that age.

OkThis is spot on. They get red so fast. Keep an eye on the back as that's where the cockerels and the pullets differ the most. But do keep in mind that this breed has the possibility of henfeathering, so even if they keep overall lacing but they get some big ol' wattles and comb, they're a male.
