I HAVE A BABY Update...;(

One of my hens went broody the beginning of this month, and now I have a baby! I'm SO excited I just can't hide it!
(there's a song in there somewhere)

I'm letting her do everything on her own. The problem is that she is in the top nest about 2 1/2 feet off of the floor. I did put a little dish of water (1/2" dish) between the nest and the rail, just so the chick will have water. I'm so nervous!!!!

When she started she had 15 eggs under her. That would be so cool if all of them hatched!!

Any way, should I put the little watering dish on the floor, not the one at the nest, but the beginner one? I hope that makes since to you.

Thanks for the help, this is my first "baby hatching" so I need a little guidance of what to expect.

Congratulations! Hopefully the baby won't fall in the next few hours. As soon as possible, I would get Mama and chicks down to floor level, because if the baby falls, it won't be able to get back up and Mama will get very distressed as she will be torn between the eggs hatching under her and feeling anxious about the fallen baby.

Thank you! At the nest there is a little lip there. Oh, when I was there she was all over the, I'm gonna call it a growl, that she made to the baby.

Congrads on the new life! It's so cool what God does!!!
15 is a very large brood...do you have a way to help manage the babies? (Extra feeders/waterers) Because 15 babies around 1 waterer is an invitation to a spill! Put in two if you can - same with food - take a large shoebox lid and sprinkle the food in there....otherwise, 15 babies will spray food everywhere! Including Mom, who's my biggest offender with food spillage. She gets in their food and scratches it ALL out of the way! Wierdo.....

You have to keep us updated on the number of babies you get!! I am just trying to start a flock this year without much success and I am excited to hear of anyone's good fortune even if it isn't my own!! lol

We have 4 so far.

Mom is out of the nest with 2 of them and the other 2 are still in the nest.

Should I put the other 2 on the floor with her or move the nest down to a lower nesting box or put everything in a box so she can come and go and not worry about the babies?
She won't let me near her at all! She has been like that since I got her.

Yes babe, put the other 2 and nest on floor level, otherwise she may not go back to the other 2 and just nurture the 2 she has on the floor with her

Sorry that the
pictures are a little fuzzy, I didn't want to stress her out too much. There is another buff color one behind her. And on
one of the eggs, is there another baby getting ready to come out?

I guess what I'm trying to say is, should I move the eggs into a box on ground level so she can sit on the rest of the eggs?

Yes, although if she left the nest already the rest might not hatch-worth a try. It may be more hatching.
