Keep the wound clean ,Your local feed store should sell cut heal (Namebrand) not that expensive . Also amoxicillin is good for warding off infection .

Clean the wound and put udder butter ( in the green square can) on it to help prevent infection. This has always worked for me. For the pad on the bottom of her foot wrap it if she will let you- but change the wrap daily. Dogs can do a good job of Healing there selves as long as you keep the infection at bay.

Hi I just had a nasty dog fight at my house this summer too! I ended up in er with 20 sutures,my dog at the vet w/2drains and sutures and my husband flat on his back on the deck from shock? anyways when we made it back to the house it looked like a murder scene... blood everywhere and a k9 from my dog the second one he lost ... But we live in the country and people are not so critical here about how you treat your animals. If you keep the areas clean and as all the others have said things should work out.I have had several fights with my dogs and I usually just treat them myself.I only take them to the vet as a last resort.Most stuff I can treat myself and things work out.We have a country vet who treats the same way least invasive path of least resistance,he is soo good and everybody goes to him he is the cheapest around and has lots of old time remedies that work but don't cost and arm and a leg.

I agree with many of the posts. My mom in laws dog got a huge rip or tear/gash that looked like it could use some medical attention but since money was tight we decided to keep it clean 2 times a day dress and wash it out with some light blue liquid concentrate called Nolvason( antibacterial wound cleanser that vet's use-dillute to make it very pale blue water) ( I saw this also in the feed store although I bought mine at the Vet's) Neosporen, wrap it tight but not too tight, make sure dog wears E collar if you can't supervise them otherwise they will lick at their wounds. ALso we used an antibiotic to keep infection at bay. Good luck- just keep a close eye on things and you should be ok. Sorry this has happend, I know it is stressful!

My dogs had a big fight yesterday, too! Our two big dogs ripped into our medium sized dog. It wasn't as bad as your fights, but it was the worst we've had around here in the year that we've had the big dogs. I'm afraid it's going to happen again and worse next time. Summer, the dog that did the most damage seems to still be following the medium dog every time the big dog is allowed out of her pen. It scares me. I'm broker than he** as well. I almost took the dog into the vet this morning because she wouldn't get out of her crate. She got out later when DH let her out and she acted normal then. She had blood running down a front and hind leg yesterday and she pooped on herself too.

sterling..it sounds like you already talked to your vet?...so i was wondering..to save money....maybe just keep it cleaned and wrapped..(like the vet said)..plus they dont usually stitch dog bites up..((it seals in the infection))..and see if they will give you an antibiotic 'script over the phone...and somehow make a collar(you can use cardboard or rigid plastic)..so she cant chew the wound....i think the 'script will be the most important thing to her recovery right now...the skin will heal..(if kept clean)..think of how they manage in the wild...with dog fights and cuts and wounds among them all the time..they survive..but again..the 'script will be the biggest help in this situation..i think..best of luck, Wendy

I agree with what others have said. I would go to the feed store and stock up on vetwrap, gauze and antibiotics. Let the wounds heal from the inside out, leave them open to drain and keep them clean. Saline solution is good for irrigation. Good luck

Batadine skin cleaner is great for keeping the wound clean. If I did suspect infection I would pour peroxide over the bite's, but never in a deep wound. People say it's rough on the skin but it's better than infection and not expensive. I have cured many dog bite wound's with simple peroxide. Infection can turn into abscess. For pain you can give a buffered asprin, I use Bayer low dose {never cat's}. Try not to feel to bad about the dog fight, no matter how careful you are sometime's it happen's. I have 17 dog's and only certain one's can live with other dog's. I rescue pit bull's and rotty's, but have the most fight's from my 6 blue heeler/pit mixes. Sometime's one will get out and hook up with another and it's on. I've been bitten 15 time's myself breaking up fight's and healed my wound's with peroxide, the one's I didn't have to get stiched up for. Good luck, keep us posted. PEACE
