Hello, I am about to get some 3 mont old Minorcas, is there any thing I need to know about them. Also are they good egg layers? Thanks

At that age they are good flyers so have good top on the run.
They lay fine, I have several and they are good layers the first 12 to 18 months.

It is bird specific but mine once they get to about 2 years the go to about a egg every other day and if you keep them to the third year mine really slacked off and went broody most of the time. They then go to freezer camp.
I like the minorca breed, they are very good foragers are very predator savy, they spot a hawk a mile away and though I don't have a real problem with daytime predators they spot movement in the woods before any of my other hens. Occasionally I have dumped dogs that come a calling and the Minorca's sound the alarm and sound it loudly and often. They warn all and obviously me and I can take care of the problem.
I do hope the ones you are getting are human friendly they can be very flighty if not given a lot of contact when chicks.

Yea they are freindly, and the guy I'm getting them from spends most of his time with his birds. Thanks for the help:D

We love our Minorca's ..we have black and buff and I'm trying for white:D
They are very nice mannered but yes they can fly but only if given a reason to do so.I don't have a top over my fenced areas and have no problems.Mine are kid raised though so they are used to anything!
They are right up there with the best of my egg layers and yes if you have a Roo they are very vocal the hens are as well.
