Running an add blocker on this site is the same as stealing from BYC. Your access to this site is paid for 1 of 2 ways, by adds, or by a PFM, if you don't have either then you are accessing the site for free. If enough people do that, the site will no longer make enough money to support it's self (running a site this size is expensive) and it will no longer exist for you to use.

Well, this might be the way you feel about it. Just feel free to klick on some more ads to support BYC, but there are more ways to do it.

As there are a lot of company website operators that track the users every move using consumer advertising, some users are just not willing to get spied on and thus lose their privacy.

Not really. I never click on any ads or buy anything that’s advertised in them, so they might as well be gone. Makes no difference in my case. I don’t know what PFM is, but I’ll look into it. I’d rather pay BYC directly than have to put up with ads in my face.

This is also how Rob, the owner of this site feels about it. The adds do not pay due to you clicking on them, they pay due to you LOOKING at them or them being on the page while you look at other things.

It doesn't matter if you buy what is advertised or click on the adds, they pay for simply being on the page, but they don't pay if they are blocked by an add blocker.

Yes they do still pay and won’t know you’re blocking them if you have an ad blocker that simply doesn’t let an image display on the user end. What marketers are most freaking out about is that some blockers also block the tracking element of ads and the collection of information about your behavior. They can’t spy on you anymore. And that is more serious of an infringement on my privacy than the mere annoyance of seeing an ad. Most people who object to ads do so because they don’t want to be tracked, not just because seeing ads is annoying. If they only wanted me to look at cooked chickens, I wouldn’t care as much, but they want a whole lot more than that, and that’s just too much.

The ads don't bother me but I am amazing at blocking and ignoring things. I just tried this, if you increase the zoom of your page to 150% you don't see any ads on the side, you have to literally scroll down to the bottom of the page pass the Post Reply box. This may be something to try. You can just hold down the CTRL button and tap the + sign for your screen to zoom in (CTRL - with zoom out).

Before I had a PFM, the adds didn't bother me unless they covered something I was reading or looking at. Now that I have one, ads have vanished into thin air. Well, not really. But no one has to deal with ads when they have a PFM.

Thank you to those of you that understand how expensive it is to run a site like BYC, and keep it as a 100% FREE service to literally MILLIONS of people all over the world!

Keeping a site like BYC running smoothly and safe is a very time and money consuming task. Think about all the expenses / costs of developers, contractors, designers, servers, etc. etc. etc.

Ads are the way we keep this site alive.

While we respect people's freedom to do what they want, we request that people either disable the ad-blockers on BYC or purchase / win a Premium Feather Membership (PFM) .

Using BYC with ad-blockers puts more and more burden on us, especially as we compete with Facebook and other sites that will directly sell your information... which we do NOT do.

Personally, I don't ever use ad blocker on any sites I visit. I think it's wrong to use a free service and not allow the owners to receive compensation for their work and expenses.

On a related note: one thing that (again personally) disappoints me is when people that use ad-blockers on BYC and then ask for support and/or complain about how we do things, or ask for features, changes, etc.

Ad-blockers complicate things even more because they are often break functionality, features, and tools on the site.

Also, to clarify something said earlier: Even if user's don't click or purchase items from the ads, we still get paid for displaying ads. Some advertisers simply want "brand awareness". So, yes, blocking ads even if you never click or buy definitely still hurts BYC.

I rarely comment on rants and raves and that’s the beautiful thing about America is we are all entitled to our own opinion.

For me it’s about value and what we honor. I can’t even tell you how much of a blessing this site has been since all the craziness and chaos in the world, it’s been awesome to seek help at times when vets weren’t an option due to the beginning of the pandemic.

I never even knew this site has ads, maybe I did Ignore it, I didn’t buy the membership to get rid of the ads, I did it to support such an amazing thing that has helped me from just one little pig to a full blown farm all questions and studying here on this site.

I am not a debater as life is way too short, but silence still is an answer and I choose to whole heartedly support BYC.
