Welcome to BYC!!!! I think you'll find it fairly addicting. My overall favorite still has to be that white silkie pullet you had in New Ulm and that I also first saw at your place 2 years ago. I like the big birds too, but there was just something about that tiny lil gal....

Yes, Flag is the petite thing, and it is hard to resist.
I like variety in the pen, different options for different judges and when ya love that fluff it does not matter what size it comes in, : )

Will send you some pics of the upcoming white cockerels from this winters breeding. Pretty, but size did drop. Should be interesting to see them finish out.
May have to pull out the larger male again to put on the girls for the later hatch outs.
But that happened when I bred Georges blacks out to another line, first years breeding the size dropped.
Size did come back last year and I am interested to see how it levels out from this years breedings. Should get more consistency this year with the black program.

So is it still snowing down there?

I would love to have a coop full of tiny little OEGB-sized silkies, and another of HUGE large-fowl brahma-sized ones!

I just love black silkies! They are by far my favorite color, something about the dark and fluffy birds. I've got some blacks out in the shop- including a very nice roo from Destiny (Amy) that I am proud to have. I have the first eggs of her roo over a couple hens from Hobosilkies due to hatch in a few days. They haven't been laying gangbusters, but enough to get some fertile eggs in the incubator. This spring I plan to hatch all I can, and cull as hard as I can. I have a test hatch in a sportsman right now.

As far as buff and partridge, I could care less- the blacks, blues, and whites are just grand. I'm too new to worry about a color that is so prone to off-color feathers. Hobosilkies has been working on them, and she said Mihalik said adding porcelain (lav) genes to the buff will provide the clear buffs that are so sought after.

I've heard a lot of your silkies Connie- hope to see your line at a show someday.
